47 families from the Dos Kramom village, Mondolkiri province, traveled to Phnom Penh on Sunday 29 Oct 2006, in search for intervention from the supreme authority of Cambodia [PM Hun Sen] to help villagers who are facing evictions from their lands.
2 out 3 villagers who are ethnic minorities, indicated that the Mondolkiri provincial authorities gave them a 15-day limit, starting from 24 Oct 2006, to move their homes out of the Dos Kramom village. The area will be converted into a cultural center for ethnic minorities: “We do not accept the action taken by the authority in this manner, and we are going [to Phnom Penh] to protest. I am protesting about my land, now they took over all of it, if they take all my land, I don’t know where to live. Please help intervene for me.”
Dos Kramom village is located in Sokdom commune, Sen Monorom district, Mondolkiri province. In 2003, Khov Khun Huor, the deputy provincial governor, ordered his forces to destroy a Buddhist pagoda and evict monks out this mountain by claiming that it is a sacred land for ethnic minorities.
