A newly recruited Kompong Cham province policeman accused of gunning down an SRP commune councilor in Ponhea Krek district remained at large Wednesday, police said. Long Sopheak, 22, is accused of shooting dead Thoeng Thea, 27, of Popel commune, Monday evening. "We do not know where he is now and police are investigating," said Seng Sokhim, deputy provincial police chief. Seng Sokhim has said the killing was not politically motivated, and that it occurred after the two men had an argument. SRP district representative Tep Kosal said politics were behind the killing, and that the argument began after one of the police officer's friends chided Thoeng Thea over his SRP membership.
