NEC accepts to extend voter registration period (1)

Following increasing pressure from the civil society and the opposition which have been denouncing shortcomings and irregularities regarding the current voter registration process, the National Election Committee decided today to extend the registration period (initially scheduled to end on 20 October) for (at least) four days. The most serious shortcomings are listed here.

After about 7 hours of grueling travel, many young women factory workers from Phnom Penh finally arrive in their village in Srey Santhor district, Kompong Cham province to try to register to vote.

Leaving Phnom Penh since 7:00 AM, some of the workers are still waiting to register to vote at 4:00 PM at the chaotic makeshift voter registration office at Chey village, Meanchey commune,
Srey Santhor district, Kompong Cham province.
