Cambodia on Monday said it opposed North Korea's decision to conduct its first nuclear weapons test but urged the Stalinist state's critics to react diplomatically.
"Cambodia is a signatory against nuclear proliferation ... so we are against (the test)," Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said.
The communist state's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) earlier announced that North Korea conducted an underground nuclear test safely and successfully and there was no radiation leak.
Khieu Kanharith also said the United States should officially declare that it would not invade North Korea.
The reclusive state has repeatedly claimed that Washington was preparing a military strike against it, making a nuclear arsenal necessary for its defence.
"All the world wants to avoid this problem so there should be talks to find the solution," he said.
North Korea pulled out of nuclear talks - involving the two Koreas, China, the United States, Japan and Russia - in November 2005.
Cambodia is one of the few countries to have diplomatic ties with North Korea. Former king Norodom Sihanouk frequently stays in a palace in Pyongyang given to him by the country's first leader, Kim Il-Sung.

Norodom Sihanouk wanted to copy North Korea style for Cambodia from 1970-1979. So that his dynasty will continue from 100 years to another 100 years. He has instructed Khiev Samphann and Pol Pot to send all people to remote area so that they cannot disturb his dynasty. Unfortunately his inhuman project has been failed. Also all his offspring are also very stupid cannot carry on their dutie to please this monster.Indeed all Cambodians around the world hated North Korea leadership to bones for abusing human right and livings from the sufferings of ordinary people.
America should invade Cambodia, we have OIL and many STUPID officials needed to re-education camp. Ah Khiev can't even wiped his own ass, it's ashame for him to advice the USA.
The N. Korea should buried the Nuke under ah Hun Sen resident, and see if the BLAST worked on ah CPP's head. And also, send the NUkes to the VN-Cam border -- obliterate the Posts on the border.
