PORTLAND (AP) - A convicted sex offender who fled Oregon to south Asia -- and was expelled from Cambodia this month -- will be headed back to Southern Oregon to face charges including sodomy and sex abuse.
Authorities say 54-year-old Terry Smith was arrested in September after police accused him of having sex with two girls, ages 13 and 14. Cambodian authorities say Smith had sex in the bedroom of a bar that he owned in a Cambodian coastal town.
He was arrested by Cambodian police in August but was quietly freed three weeks later -- and disappeared. He was arrested again in September when he tried to replace a passport police had confiscated earlier.
The U.S. Marshal's Service in Portland says Smith apparently is in Los Angeles County, where he arrived from Cambodia. He is undergoing the extradition proceedings to get him to Oregon.
