Prince Norodom Ranariddh remains the president of Funcinpec and will not accept the decision of the royalist party congress that ousted him Wednesday, the prince's cabinet announced in a statement on Friday. "Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh is still, and will always be the legal president of the Funcinpec party," the cabinet announced in the statement addressed to the "national and international public." The congress, which appointed Cambodia's Ambassador to Germany, Keo Puth Rasmey, to replace Prince Ranariddh, contravened the regulations of Funcinpec and its decisions have no validity, the cabinet added. Funcinpec's new spokesman, Nouv Sovathero, said Prince Ranariddh should accept the reality of the situation. "The congress has already made its decision, and it is already correct," he said. Speaking outside the Council of Ministers, CPP Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said that Prince Ranariddh would lose his position as a member of the National Assembly if he proceeds with plans to form a new political party.

It is true that Rannarith can still claim that he is the President provided last week special congress has been organised without his knowledge. If he has been invited for this special congress and he has refused to attended, then his removal can be valided. As Cambodia has been declared as a fully democratic country, therefore, the country must uphold at what cost the democratic laws.
