Prince Norodom Ranariddh was stripped of his new title as Funcinpec's historical president and fired as a lawmaker after he submitted a request to the Interior Ministry to establish a new political party, Funcinpec officials said Sunday.
Prince Sisowath Sirirath, Funcinpec's second deputy president said the party had no choice but to remove the prince from the positions as it would have been against the law to let him keep them after he turned his back on Funcinpec.
Prince Ranariddh asked the Interior Ministry on Thursday for permission to form the Norodom Ranariddh Party, his public affairs adviser Ok Socheat said Sunday.
"He automatically lost his position—we must think of the party," Prince Sirirath said.
"We appointed him to historical president, but he didn't accept it. Instead he insulted the congress saying it was illegal," Prince Sirirafh said, referring to the Oct 18 extraordinary Funcinpec congress that ousted Prince Ranariddh from the party presidency. "[Prince Ranariddh] loves living abroad rather than living in the country to serve the party," he added.
Funcinpec spokesman Nouv Sovathero confirmed that Funcinpec has fired Prince Ranariddh from both positions.
Ok Socheat maintained that Prince Ranariddh cannot be fired as a lawmaker because he is still the president of Funcinpec and has filed a lawsuit against Funcinpec Secretary-General Nhiek Bun Chhay for allegedly illegally convening a congress to oust him.
"Prince Sisowath Sirirath doesnt know the law. The party hasn't fired him yet," Ok Socheat said.
Liv Sovanna, a lawyer representing Prince Ranariddh, said he filed the lawsuit against Nhiek Bun Chhay at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Friday.
Ok Socheat said that Prince Ranariddh has left the word "prince" out of the proposed new party's name in case the government passes a law to prevent royals from participating in politics.
Lay Voharith, director of the Interior Ministry's department of political affairs, said that the ministry had received the request and would issue a decision Wednesday.
"I think that there is no problem" in registering the new party, he said. But he added that by submitting the application, Prince Ranariddh would have to forgo his Funcinpec membership.
CPP Lawmaker Cheam Yeap said that, along with his titles, Prince Ranariddh has also lost the immunity that comes with being a lawmaker. "When lawmakers lose immunity, they become an ordinary person," he said.
Hang Puthea, director of Neutral and Impartial Committee for Free Elections in Cambodia, warned that if the prince has lost his political immunity, he may face future legal problems.
"There may be a problem with [Prince Ranariddh's] opponents," he said.

Hello Rannarith supporters!!! You are so funny. Most of you have lived in western country already. you knew how political lives for politicians in wester countries. Once, they have been removed from leadership, or from allegation of any corruptions, that politician will be gone from public life for good. This leader must find a private life to live. Noone will bother to listen or to believe in him anymore because young generation will push him out. Why, you find difficult a leader to replace Rannarith? They is sad!!! In western world, we believe in party policies and not party leader. If the leader has breached the policies, we dump him and we elected a new one to carry on with the policies. I have no loyalty to any leader. But I have my loyalty with policies written by party instead. This is my principal.
This Ranridh has no shame! I think he was born of dog! He has no moral principle for the society, but self indulgent/corruption. Just like father, like son...
We should hang all Norodumb.
The new logo for the Norodom Rannaridh party is a great joke I thought - whoever created that and posted it on the web - well done - you had me nearly had me totally fooled. But wait a minute... then I thought to myself "Could one really be so capricious, so egotistical, so imperious and out of touch with reality that they would create a logo for their self-named political party which depicts a young and fully haired (unless PR has recently adopted a wig), smug and self-satifsfied image for the rest of the nation to gaze upon?" Sadly I realised that it was not a joke... the answer to the above is an emphatic Yes. Only Rannaridh could do this to himself yet again. When will he learn? In case you haven't seen him recently he is almost totally bald - so his new party will be a sham and a 'cover up' and the joke will continue and yet again the joke will be on him.
Hey you all are you fool know that you joint Ranarith not to coppetting with CPP but the King?
If you go to jail no one can help you! fools!

I like that! the Norodums should all be hanged especially their father (Sihanouk) whom inherit these monster genes.
I think it time for him to learn the reality as new party. May be this would lead him to Prey Sar before the his insanity kick in.
