Sihanouk declines to comment on Cambodian situation anymore

October 11, 2006

Retired king of Cambodia Norodom Sihanouk has issued two statements consecutively on his personal website in recent days to keep himself away from the kingdom's political scenario.

In the statement issued on Monday, he said he would no longer give comments about the situation in Cambodia.

A wrong message was conveyed to the public, as Prince Sisowath Thomico said weeks ago that he should step out of retirement and once again manage the kingdom, he said.

It was not his intention to run the country at the current times, he added.

Earlier last week, Sihanouk declared on his website that he would celebrate his 84 birthday in Beijing, China, by inviting five senior monks there on his own expenses to hold religious ceremony for him.

Meanwhile, he asked the Cambodian people not to arrange any celebration for him in the kingdom and refused to accept congratulations in any form.

The former king arrived in Beijing last month to receive medical treatment.

In 1953, under Sihanouk's leadership, Cambodia won independence from France. On Oct. 6, 2004, he retired due to age and health problems, after serving his country for almost 63 years through wars and turmoil.

Your comments are no longer really interest to Cambodian any more...'cause your post could be possibly make the young khmers generation into a blur mood.

You have created too many rains and storms in the past on our own Khmers'land and now those land most of its was lost to the Veit...that is why your highness could not stay in Cambodia for such a treatment....Isn't it?. Or may be the KR's trial that make your highness move to China?. If it is so you are not a man, but a mad man.

It is so absurd and despicable to hear this falsified historical information again and again that Sihanouk won independence from France.

IT WAS THE EFFORT OF ALL THE KHMER COMPATRIOTS WHO HAD DEVOTED THEIR LIVES TO FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE FROM FRANCE AND FROM THE AGGRESSIVE NEIGHBOR COUNTRIES. THOSE KHMER COMPATRIOTS DESERVED TO BE KHMER NATIONAL HEROS AND THEY SHOULD GET ALL THE CREDITS FOR WHAT THEY DID.

The article also failed to mention the important Khmer historical event during the 1975 - 1977. Was Sihanouk got himself tangled up with the Khmer communist regime and/or Sihanouk himself was the mastermind that brought all the destruction to Cambodian people and Cambodia?

On the side note, don't bother to come back to Camnodia. We Khmer people have suffered enough. As a matter of fact, Khmer people don't have 10' X 4' and 6' under plot of land for you. You should enjoy yourself in China for your last breath.

In May of this year, before you planned to return to Cambodia, you informed the public and the national and international media that you did not want any ceremony for your return. However, after a week of your arrival to Cambodia, you, Hun Sen, and his cronies were having a big celebration for your returned. You had congratulated Hun Sen for sparing your Royal Palace.

Good night,

So sad for the poor EX King. It looks like HMK is having intermittent of depression and isolation. This disorder is prevalent among elderly and women. Sometimes it can make people indecisive and ambivalence. But there are various treatments for this disorder.

Don't worry folks, he will change his mind again! If it is difficult to cure an illegal drug addiction it will be just as difficult to cure a political power addiction.
