One man was shot and two others injured Tuesday when armed bodyguards of an unidentified government official or businessman attacked them following a minor traffic accident in Daun Penh district, police said.

The shooting and brutal assault occurred after a motorbike carrying three men collided with a Mercedes Benz on Street 126 in Phsar Thmei I commune at 8:15 pm.

The luxury vehicle did not stop, but four armed bodyguards in a Jeep following behind proceeded to pistol-whip the three men, and according to a police report, a bodyguard's pistol accidentally discharged during the assault.

"Sin Sinan, 24, a security guard for Khmer Security, was shot once in the back and lightly wounded," Daun Penh district police chief Phan Pheng said Thursday.

"Nheim Vesna, 22, was beaten until bloody by the four bodyguards who used the handles of their guns. Nheim Sothearith, 27, was injured too," he said.

"We don't know who [the assailants] are," Phan Pheng said.

Police arrived at the scene after both the Mercedes and Jeep had left and could not identify the occupants, who were either bodyguard for a high-ranking government official or a tycoon, Phan Peng said.

The three victims have not filed a complaint with the police so a police investigation into the matter has not been opened he said.

A report on the beating and shooting has been submitted to the Municipal Police department, he added.

Deputy Municipal Police chief Chev Hak said he had not received the report.

The three men could not be reached for comment Wednesday or Thursday.

This is typical in Cambodia, where money is power. I can understand why the victims are afraid to file a complaint. It’s not worth risking your life, there’s no justice in a corrupted government.

I can understand their fear. Who will protect them if they were harassed/threatened? Do you think this government will stand by you, the weak and vulnerable?

In response to 12:08, it sounds like you respect the law of animal? You might just get it yourself some day, then you will know how it is like.

It is a stupid law, if a person got shot with a fire gun, the police is to investigate automatically. But who dare if the boss said don't get involve. It shown the uncapablility of the cheif of police and if he has any guts then he should resign immidiately

Yes,
He is my tycoon. If that tycoon has been face problem, the same as I do.

His body guard just try to prevent and satisfy their boss. It is ok.
I will tell them to learn how to forgive.
