According to an anonymous official from Mondolkiri province, a North Korean man who took refuge in Mondolkiri province have been sent by the local authority to the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in Phnom Penh. However, no official confirmation is provided.

Lee Hai Long, the North Korean man was sent over on Saturday 26 Nov, is a 36-year-old teacher who left his country with his wife to Vietnam. He later left his wife in Vietnam to continue to Cambodia by taking forest roads. He was arrested by the Cambodian border police in Mondolkiri province on 12 Nov 2006, near a forest in Lam Lea mountain, Pechreada district, close to the Vietnamese border.

Up to now, Cambodian authority officials are not revealing any details about the arrest of the North Korean man.

On 22 Nov, Lay Sokha, Mondolkiri governor, was reported by a local newspaper, confirming that there was indeed an arrest made on a Korean man and that he was still in the province.

On Sunday 26 Nov 2006, RFA contacted by phone Nhem Bunny, the police chief in Mondolkiri province, to ask him about the information above. However, the person answering the phone indicated that Nhem Bunny is on a mission, and he did not take his phone with him. Provincial governor Lay Sokha could not be contacted either, he indicated that he is busy Phnom Penh and that he is not informed about the situation. Khieu Sopheak, MoI spokesman, claimed the same thing also.
