Cambodia proposes new football gambling license for bid

The Cambodian Government presented the four-year-long football gambling license of about eight million U.S. dollars from 2007 to 2011 for private companies to bid, local media reported on Wednesday.

Chea Peng Chheang, secretary of state at Ministry of Finance and Economy, was quoted as saying that Cambosix, the only legal football betting agency in Cambodia, received the license from the government in 2001 and it would be renewed in Feb. 2007.

Through bidding for the new license, the ministry aimed to secure more benefits for the government, but so far no company applied for the form of bidding, he said.

The price was set by the government and would not be changed, he added.

Meanwhile, a Cambosix staff member told Xinhua in condition of anonymity that the price for the license was too high to be accepted and his company would not continue the business.
