110 Identified as VN Taken Off Voter List

The National Election Committee on Saturday approved the removal of 110 names from the commune election voter list, after accepting a complaint by the SRP stating that they belonged to Vietnamese nationals. The names are to be removed in Chroy Changvar commune in Phnom Penh's Russei Keo district. Khan Keomono, deputy director of the NEC's public information department said the names were removed after the NEC found that they belonged to people who had no identity cards and no fixed address. SRP lawmaker Ho Vann welcomed the NEC's decision but said there are many more Vietnamese nationals registered to vote in Cambodia who also need to be struck off the voter list. "In fact, Vietnamese live everywhere in Phnom Penh and attend Cambodian schools so they have Cambodian names," he claimed. Election monitors have cautioned that it is difficult to differentiate between Vietnamese nationals in Cambodia, and ethnic Vietnamese Cambodians, who they say should be allowed to vote.

There seems to be a soft spot somewhere in NEC. Has the oppositions finally cracked it? Do they know how they did it?
