Two men accused of tricking five people out of $100 to $200 each by promising to hire them as bodyguards for Prime Minister Hun Sen were transferred to military police custody in Kampot province Tuesday, police said. Chab Vannak falsely claimed that he held the rank of major in Hun Sen's bodyguard unit and had recruited Chea Bunthy to assist him in the scam, said Sam Uk, Kampot district police chief. The pair were arrested Sunday. "[Chab Vannak] has a [fake] letter to confirm his mission in all provinces and municipalities to choose bodyguards for the prime minister," Sam Uk said. The pair were sent to military police headquarters in Kampot town Tuesday and will face charges in Kampot Provincial Court, said In Chiva, deputy provincial police chief.
