Prime Minister Hun Sen has promised to award 5,000 U.S. dollars for each Cambodian gold medalist, 3,000 for silver and 2,000 for bronze medal winners at the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, local media said on Wednesday.
"We should have a real decree for athletes who win medals from the international stage," he was quoted as saying.
Cambodia sent 17 athletes and 17 officials to Doha. The team of 14 men and 3 women will take part in beach volleyball, swimming, athletics, judo, karate, taekwondo, wrestling and snooker competitions.
Wrestler, snooker and taekwondo athletes are hopeful to win Cambodia its first Asian Games medal in 36 years.

Hun Sen knows that there is little chance these Cambodian athletes will win any medals, so he makes such a promise. The best way to ensure Cambodian althletes will have any chance of success is to prepare them physically, mentally and financially before the games start. Then, they will be able to do their best. If they win medals then those promised awards will be a welcome added bonus.
I would not be surprised if there were more so-called sport officials than the real athletes on this trip. Many of them would see this event as an opportunity to travel abroad, not to make their country proud, as they have done so in the past.
I told you so! Give these Cambodian athletic some incentive to win and win they will after failing so many years! ahahahahah
