Vietnam Rubber Industrial Conducts Surveys In Cambodia

HANOI, Nov 29 - Vietnam Rubber Industrial Group has conducted surveys on 180,000 hectares of land in three northeastern provinces of Cambodia for its project to plant 100,000 hectares of rubber as agreed to with the neighbouring country.
The Group's CEO, Tran Kien Quyet, said the project will start in Karatie province, where 50,000 hectares of high-quality rubber will be planted with a total investment of US$150 million.
Quyet added his group will set up five companies, each allocated with 10,000 hectares in Cambodia to conduct the project, which is expected to provide jobs for 35,000 local workers with monthly incomes ranging from US$100 to US$300 per capita.

It is possible that Chan Sarun's family members are shareholders in this scheme as well. Like any other corrupt business practices in Cambodia, major investments like this would not take off the ground without colluding with the public officials.
Let's hope those 35,000 local workers are not Vietnamese carrying Khmer ID cards facilitated by those powerful Cambodian officials involved in this project.
