Khmer Kampuchea Krom (K3) monks from Phnom Penh and Preah Trapeang (Travinh in Vietnamese) province in Kampuchea Krom (KK) are accusing the Vietnamese police authority of arresting Thach Kong Huon, a 30-year-old K3 Buddhist monk, at the end of October and accusing him of involvement with the International Kampuchea Krom Federation (KKF), an organization aimed at demanding the independence of KK from the current Vietnamese occupation.

One source indicated that Thach Kong Huon lived in Cambodia for about 3 to 4 years already and he had returned back to his birthplace to visit his parents in order to participate in a Kathen Tean (Buddhist procession ceremony to bring gift to a pagoda) organized at a KK pagoda in Preah Trapeang at the end of October. However, Thach Kong Huon was called in by the Vietnamese authority and was arrested and jailed in his room in the pagoda. He was ordered to remain in the room, prevented from communicating with other monks or anybody else, and he is under constant surveillance by the Vietnamese police.

The same source indicated that the arrested monk has a valid Cambodian visa and passport, however, he is KK native.

Thach Van Din, a 47-year-old monk at the Samaki Raingsey pagoda in Phnom Penh and also a member of the International KKF, said: “On 30 October, he (Thach Kong Huon) obtained a legal passport and visa as a Cambodian citizen. The Preah Trapeang (Travinh) authority issued an arrest warrant and ordered him placed under 24-hour house arrest since the day he arrived until now.”

Yoeung Sin, another monk who is President of the K3 association based in Cambodia, said in reaction to the event that this is a trampling and an extreme attempt of right violation: “They (the Vietnamese authority) are savage and cruel, they use all kinds of pretext to eliminate our nationality, our culture, our customs.”

Based on an interview with a K3 monk currently living in a pagoda in Preah Trapeang province also, the latter told RFA said that Thach Kong Huon was arrested because the Vietnamese authority accused him of involvement with the International KKF: “He is under constant surveillance by the Vietnamese authority, therefore he does not want to get into contact with other Buddhist [pagoda] members, nor with other monks.”

RFA could not obtain any clarification from the Vietnamese embassy in Phnom Penh. According to a police official at the Cambodian Ministry of Interior, he indicated that according to the law, if the Vietnamese police arrest a Cambodian citizen, it must provide the information to the Cambodian authority. He commented that the involvement with the International KKF cannot be construed as illegal.

The KKF under the presidency of Thach Ngoc Thach had operated at the international level to attract the attention to the customs of Khmer Kampuchea Krom people – the actual owners of the Kampuchea Krom (current South Vietnam) land – and to demand the independence of Kampuchea Krom from Vietnam.

The Vietcong double agents are everywhere in Cambodia disguise as civilian and this had become a national problem! Cambodian people can't even decided what to do with their national interest without interference from the Vietcong double agents!

AH HUN SEN allowed the Vietcong double agents to infiltrate Cambodian politic and he will be responsible for it!

The International independence of Kampuchea Krom (KK) movement is doing good for our fellow Cambodia in KK. Vietname see them as a threats, the possiblilty of a second East Timor is getting closer by the day!

The movement is a clean organisation representing 11 millions Cambodian living on our native land (now called south Vietnam)the Frence gave to the Viet only 50 years ago.

It is again Vietnam abused of Human Rights for a monk of any Khmer Krom to have the association to this movement or any other movement as they are none voilent. We must protect this illegal action by the Viet authority.
