HONG KONG: Deposed Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra joked that he was looking for a job as he shopped with his wife at an upmarket mall in Hong Kong, a report said yesterday.
The Chinese-language Oriental Daily News published pictures of Thaksin and his wife Pojaman holding hands and shopping in designer shops in the city’s financial district.
Looking relaxed in his light blue zip-up jacket and dark blue trousers, he told the newspaper that he arrived in the territory on Sunday and would leave soon to visit other Southeast Asian countries.
Thaksin would not name the countries nor comment on what he was doing in Hong Kong.
“I’m looking for a job. I’m unemployed,” he joked with a reporter, the newspaper said.
Thaksin was in New York when the coup happened, and had since been living in self-imposed exile in London, where he has a home, but the former premier has been staying in China since this month, raising speculation he might return home soon.
But Thaksin, who was accompanied by three assistants, told the newspaper that he would return to Thailand only when the political situation stabilises.
“He came here in a personal capacity. We wouldn’t have been informed,” consul Waramon Waruttama said.
The report said for 40 minutes, the couple browsed around designer shops including Marc Jacobs, where Thaksin tried on a dark suit but didn’t buy it.
His wife chose a handbag and two blouses worth a total of HK$4,680 ($600).
While paying for his wife’s shopping with his credit card, Thaksin joked with the sales assistant: “I have no money.”
They were then whisked away in a van.

Thaksin !! You are a good role model of good leadership> I really admired of what you have done. You have done nothing for your country. You are a perfect leader. But as life, people sometime are jealous with you with all your monies and your popularity therefore, they wanted you out.It is a right thing for you. Life is short. You can only do so much for your country. Now it time, you enjoy your life with your family. You have created a very good legacy for your country under your model role. We need more leaders like you in this world.
HUn sen will be assassinated by his bodyguard. That bodyguard will be considered as a hero in Cambodia...
I think if anyone can assassinate Hun Sen we should protect him and will give at least one millions dollar.
They look good! I wish them a happy life! Who cares about Thailand. They have enough smart people and King who couldn't careless about them. Enjoy life abroad, write abook, learn how to cook, practice dancing or something or go fishing! Life is too short.
With $70 Billions Batts, Oh Thacksin! comes to New York, convert them to $ and let play more stock market games. This time all is for you and your wife. Sweet sweet life! and it mya not a bad idea talking to Mr. Hun Sen to join you, before it's too late.
Samdech Hun Sen's body guards will arrest the dog like you whom is plotted to assassinate Samdech Hun Sen, a Prominent Elected PM of Cambodia. And I will always stand in front of him to protect him.
Before you are firmly able to manage to protect the assasinator, you are better to protect yourself, your parents and your relative first.
This message is: from the one who live in USA and also always support the real demoncracy and Samdech Hun Sen and current Cambodian Gov't as well.
I don't think that people in the world considered or accepted a crime offender became a hero just because of killing somebody. I even can't see any article mentioned in the UN Charther on Human and Freedom of Speech saying so.
