The Asia Development Bank (ADB) and the World Health Organization (WHO) decided to donate 9 million U.S. dollars to Cambodia to fight communicable diseases from 2006 to 2010, an ADB official said in Phnom Penh on Friday.
Vincent de Wit, health specialist of ADB, told Xinhua that the finance will aim at strengthening the work to fight against communicable diseases in Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.
ADB and WHO altogether spared 30 million U.S. dollars for the region to fight the diseases. Included were 9 million dollars for Cambodia, 6 million dollars for Laos and 15 million dollars for Vietnam, said Wit while attending a regional seminar for combating communicable diseases.
Meanwhile, Eng Huot, secretary of state of Ministry of Health told the three-day seminar that the Cambodian government was determined to actively participate in the prevention of the communicable diseases and had been trying to enable its health officials to cooperate with other countries in the region.
Bird flu is one of the major communicable diseases in the region, and has killed six Cambodians so far.
