Angkor Nights cultural festival: Dec. 14 - 17

If you enjoy showcases of ancient culture brought to life and if you are in the area or if you are looking for a place to visit, Siem Reap, Cambodia, home of the famed Angkor Wat temples is the place to be 14th – 17 December.

This year the Cambodian government and the French government are celebrating 100 years of friendship and the 40th anniversary of former French President General Charles de Gaulle’s official state visit to Cambodia, restoring diplomatic relations after a long French colonial period.

His Majesty the King of Cambodia Norodom Sihamoni will also make his first state visit to Siem Reap during what is being called The Angkor Nights cultural showcase the 14th through the 17th of December.

The Royal Ballet of Cambodia will perform all four nights along with dancers of the Conservatories of Paris where His Majesty King Sihamoni taught ballet for almost 20 years and with The Ballet d’Europe of Marseilles, directed by Jean-Charles Gil.

An extra added attraction will be the Balinese dance t troupe Bona Giam Yan performing on the 17th.

All performances will be outdoors on a stage erected in front of the west wall of the mystical Angkor Wat temple.

Following is a schedule of performances:

December 14th – 6:30 pm: The dancers of the Conservatories of Paris will perform ‘The Gemstones Arch.” The Cambodian Royal Ballet will present ‘Preah Sothon’ dance.

December 15th – 6:30 pm: The Ballet d’Europe of Marseilles will perform ‘Mozart Requiem.’ The Cambodian Royal Ballet will present an ensemble of three ballet scores -the ‘Apsara’ dance, ‘Chong Spean,’ and the ‘Tepmonorom’ dance.

December 16th – 6:30 pm: The Ballet d’Europe of Marseilles will perform ‘Mozart Requiem’ and the Cambodian Royal Ballet will present a new adaptation of ‘Vorvong.’

December 17th – 6:30 pm: The dancers of the Conservatories of Paris will perform ‘The Gemstones Arch.’ The Cambodian royal Ballet will present an ensemble of three ballet scores: the ‘Apsara’ dance, ‘Chong Spean’ and ‘Tepmonorom’ dance.

The Balinese Bona Giam Yan troupe will perform.
