Corruption endemic in Cambodia: study

An international watchdog has warned that corruption is evident in almost every aspect of Cambodian life.

Transparency International says it is considered necessary in Cambodia to pay unofficial fees to secure services including medical care, education credentials and birth certificates.

In a joint statement with Cambodian rights organisation Centre for Social Development, the groups say everyday forms of corruption have become so prevalent that people consider them routine.

However, no Cambodian regards unofficial payments as fair or acceptable.

The statement says that many Cambodians do not feel powerful enough to confront or change the system.

The review comes ahead of a so-called National Integrity System Study of Cambodia conducted by the Centre for Social Development.

they are not only corrupt, but even people say about corruption will have problem. Their theory is people should " not-say but pay corruption" These leaders will be better if they corrupt and recognise that they do corrupt. they are so coward in accepting the truth but they are very brave to kill and jail cambodians.
