Internet juggernaut Google last week launched a Khmer-language version of its popular search engine at www.google.com.kh. "We launched the Google Cambodia domain this week, along with a number of others, and are excited to bring new search functionality to users in Cambodia," company spokesman Daniel Pastor wrote in an e-mail Friday. "[W]e offer as many country domains as possible, which let users restrict their search to their country's domain (.kh in this case) or to the language in which they're searching," he said. Google was heavily criticized early this year for bowing to Chinese government pressure to censor political content on its Chinese-language version. However, search results in Cambodia are not tampered with, Pastor said. Pastor did not answer questions about search volume in Cambodia. However, representatives of Intel Corporation said last year they believed that only 12 percent of Cambodians had access to the Internet.

Based on the Chinese principle, the search results in Cambodian Google will not be tampered with as long as they do not affect the pocket nerve.
