Hun Sen's character-assassination attempt on Son Chhay in retaliation for his comment on Hor Namhong's childishness

I Was Never a Spy for Hun Sen, Says Son Chhay

By Yun Samean and John Maloy
THE CAMBODIA DAILY

Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Son Chhay denied Monday that he was ever a spy for Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Hun Sen lashed out Saturday against an unnamed individual in a nationally broadcast speech in Phnom Penh, saving that he had documentation to expose the man as one of his former spies.

"He tried to curse Hun Sen to be famous, but he forgets that he was my little spy," Hun Sen said, adding that he had revealed the identity of his spy at a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday.

Several government officials present at that meeting said on Sunday and Monday that Hun Sen had named Son Chhay.

Council of Ministers CPP Secretary of State Bun Uy said that the prime minister told those in attendance that he had paid Son Chhay $10,000 to act as his agent.

"Samdech Hun Sen said Son Chhay was his spy," Bun Uy said.

Ministry of Tourism CPP Secretary of State Thong Khon, who was also present at the meeting, confirmed that Hun Sen had named Son Chhay.

In his speech, Hun Sen said that the spy had begged him not to make his evidence public.

Son Chhay, however, challenged the prime minister to substantiate his allegations.

"I would like to get him to produce any evidence," Son Chhay said. "What do I know about spying?" he added. "I have nothing to fear, let him show what he has."

Son Chhay admitted to accepting $10,000 from the CPP-led government in the months following the July 1997 factional fighting that brought the CPP to power. The money, he said, was compensation that all parliamentarians received at the time.

But several members of the 1997 parliament contacted Monday said that no such payments were ever handed out. Others said money was promised by the CPP to lawmakers to build support for the early-August election of Funcinpec's then-Foreign Minister Ung Huot to the first prime minister position replacing Prince Norodom Ranariddh.

Son Chhay said that he was out of the country when Ung Huot was elected and that the money he received came without any conditions.

"I was told that [it was compensation], but I was never asked to do anything else," he said.

Son Chhay said that Hun Sen's spy allegation was retaliation for comments he made about CPP Foreign Affairs Minister Hor Namhong earlier this month regarding the minister's handling of Finland's granting a visa to the recently jailed Heng Pov.

Hor Namhong blasted Finland for offering the visa to the disgraced former police chief, accusing the Scandinavian country of being a haven for Cambodian criminals.

At the time, Son Chhay said that the foreign minister's reaction to Finland was "childish."

In his speech Saturday, Hun Sen attacked his unnamed "spy" for criticizing Hor Namhong.

"He is rude and called Hor Namhong childish and the government childish," Hun Sen said.

"He doesn't know how tall the sky is and how long Hun Sen's hands are," the prime minister said. "You can talk but not too much," he added.

Son Chhay said that he was well within his rights to be critical of the foreign minister. He added that it was inappropriate for Hun Sen to make such remarks.

"It cannot continue to have the prime minister to be saying that kind of thing," Son Chhay said. "To discredit a person is unacceptable... [Hun Sen] has to respect and abide by the law and the Constitution," he said.

Son Chhay added that if he had made similar allegations against the prime minister he could expect to be hit with a defamation lawsuit and "thrown in jail."

Information Minister and government spokesman Kliieu Kanharith said that Hun Sen did not identify the spy in his speech on Saturday. Asked about his reported identification of Son Chhay at the Council of Ministers, Khieu Kanharith said he did not attend the meeting and could not comment.

SRP leader Sam Rainsy said on Monday that he fully supported Son Chhay and trusted his colleague 100 percent.

"I have no concern over my colleagues' loyalty," he said. Hang Puthea, director of the Neutral and Impartial Committee for Free Elections in Cambodia, said that, regardless of the allegations. Son Chhay has never exhibited any love for the ruling party.

"He has never been pro-government," he said.

For last anonymous:

Don't be a fool and you're must be Ah Kwak compatriot. How much you know about your master, Ah Kwak?

For Ah Kwak:

He used any tactics to break up the opposition party. He warn any opponents that they can talk against his party, but not much and has a long arm that he can kill opponents. the sky is high means he can send his opponent to heaven.

If he can talk bad about other people, why not us. We need to send Ah Kwak to heaven. He destroys Cambodia and his people more than KR. KR only kills his own people, but never gives away land to VC. Ah Kwak did both.

LOOK GUY, Son Chhay have to watch his back. If Son Chhay was thruly a spy of Hun Sen, then SRP will MUST TO kick him out of the line because Srp won't thrust you any more. Son Chhay must know and realylize, what you were treat on Srp so far...? I like to yell to Son Chhay stop stiring RSP's internal policy and get loose,

Hello,

They say, "When there is smoke, 99% there is fire." I hope, Son Chhay, is in the 1% false alarm category. The allegation made by PM Hun Sen that Son Chhay is his "little spy" is a serious matter, and could lead to internal political friction within the SRP. The SRP has to deploy their legal committee to do a further legal investigation, which should be fully supported by the party. This is not a local, but rather a national matter, and therefore, if the case is handled delicately, and if Son Chhay has substantial evidences to prove his innocent from what the PM Hun Sen has allegedly accused him of, then there is an excellent prima facia case against PM Hun Sen.

Everybody knows Hun Sen is playing a dangerous game to all people who oppose him and his party's members. If he can intimidate a member of paliament, he is above the law of Cambodia. The country does not need, therefore, a constition, national assembly or members of paliament. Let Hun Sen rules alone. We all know who is behind Hun Sen. Hor Nam Hong is a big dady Vietcong in the CPP. Hun Sen has to jump like "TORO" to defend his boss. Even Sdach Ta lost his case in Paris court against Hor Nam Hong, when he accused him of being a Khmer Rouge prision guard at Toul Sleng. Hor Nam Hong is a big player in Cambodian politics at the moment. As a foriegn minister he can steers Cambodia into the Vietcong's trap. Hor Nam Hong doesn't talk much, but he let Hun Sen does all stupid things to destroy Cambodia.

Whether one was spy or not is not a matter. The importance is that that one can do something for SRP and right work in assembly where he serves according to SRP's vision.

I just share a little analytical idea on this:
-supposed Hun Sen has his spy in SRP, it means that he cannot use or order his spy anymore now, otherwise he would not break the secret.
-supposed Hun Sen used US$10.000 to buy a spy in SRP, what kind of buget did he in the position as prime minister used???? in what purpose??? for national benefit or for CPP's benefit??? was it his own money or public money??? should donor countries investigate this or not??? should donation be suspended in case of corruption??? the national court should also investigate such a scandard. It's a kind of corruption and the person who committed should be sentenced to Prey Sar for some years. Hun Sen, you should be aware of this as well.
-Prince Sihanouk used to say that "if yuon talks good of him, it means he and cambodia are donig good things for yuon but not for us, if yuon talks bad of him and cambodia, it means we are doing the right things for us". So SRP is doing right things now, that is why Hun Sen tries to talk something bad of SRP. Dear SRP supportors, I think you are doing the right things!!!!!!! Ignor what this man says, send him a warrant on corruption or using public money for private party when juridiciary system is independent.

It is obvious that Son Chhay criticism against Hor Namhong and the government reaction toward Finland's for granting Heng Pov asylum is hinting Hun Sen hard on the chess. That is why he is finding reasons to get back at Son Chhay.

It goes to show how determine Hun Sen and his Team is getting Heng Pov into their custody, because Heng Pov knew too much....

Soon people will forget above Heng Pov, then the news come as "Heng Pov" died in goal. Gorv't spokeman Khanarith will say along the line " Heng Pov death is due personal dispute of sickness while in goal", after the torture of course.

Whatever Ah Hun Sen say about Son Chhay is contrary to Son Chhay actions as MP he have fight hard against the CPP, Hun Sen.

Stick to the picture, if AH Hun Sen have no evidence or he can still fabricate evidence to match his claim, or use the court again Son Chhay.
So be on the alert, however if there is no evidence we should question Ah Hun Sen as per earlier Anonymouse mentioning.

Ah Hun Sen know that SRP party is seem strong and are getting stronger. Keep this unity and assess on merits, get on with the job.
AH Hun Sen lip service will continue for he don't like to talk above the million of problems cambodian face, but prefer to pick on useless issues like this one.

Ah Hun Sen the blind eye have fucked part of his brain. Not only he can't see with one eye but he can ONLY THINK with HALF OF HIS BRAIN.
We already seen his past work in creating problems to weakend other political parties.

It is very alarming to see that lots of things going on in politic, especially in Cambodia. And yes politic is dirty. The recent revelation (accusation) made by Hun Sen that Son Chhay was once his "little spy" come as a shock as this revealed two sides to the coin. First, Hun Sen has admitted that he has the money to buy votes and supports in the Parliament when and if necessary to do so. He is also shamelessly claiming himself to be the master of dirty politic and even showing the will to do anything to stay in power. The accusation as it turns out has some merit regardless of whether it is true or not.

Son Chhay, as an opposition parliamentarian, has been claiming to be the flower in the pool of cow feces; the "clean" politician in the dirty world. And yet, regardless of whether he was the spy or not, he admits to have accepted $10,000 as "unconditional compensation" for reasons he does not know. The $10,000 "gift" was handed to him (and according to some sources most of the parliamentarians) during a tense period after the 1997 coup. The parliamentarians were asked to support a candidate of Hun Sen's choosing to be the puppet First Prime Minister of the government while Hun Sen remained as the Second but real Prime Minister. With some magic, the parliaments fulfilled the wish of Hun Sen. Do we really think that anyone in their rightful mind not knowing or questioning why he received a $10,000 from the ruling dirty party while being an opposition parliamentarian? There are only two things now to think of Mr. Son Chhay and the rest who went that low; it is either he is corrupted or he is a brainless. Either of the two makes him unfit to represent any of us.

I guess we can assume the dirty politicians in power to be dirty. The question then is how clean are the clean oppositions? Or I guess we should ask, how dirty are the people claiming to be clean? Now we know that Son Chhay has sold his soul, how else can we expect from his peers? Mr. Son Chhay should resign immediately because he will probably receive more unconditional gift being in his current position. The Sam Rainsy Party must take an appropriate stance and be a model for party integrity by asking Mr. Son Chhay to resign from the party.

SON HOK CHHAY WAS AND IS A SNAKE WITH TWO HEADS.

DO NOT TRUST AND WORK WITH A SPY.

WHEN SAM RAIN SY WENT TO EXILE, SON HOK CHHAY TRIED HARD TO BECOME THE PRESIDENT OF THE SRP PARTY.

HE WAS DIVIDING SRP INTO TWO GROUPS ONE GROUP WORKING IN THE FIRST FLOOR AND ANOTHER ONE WORKING IN THE SECOND FLOOR AT THE SRP HQ.

HIS AUSTRALIAN WIFE FAMILY IN ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA HELPING HIM TO GET EDUCATION, NOW HE DIVORCE HIS WIFE WHO HAD BRING HIM UP TO WHAT HE IS NOW.

WHEN HE WAS IN SURIN REFUGEE CAMP IN THAILAND, HE TOOK SOMEBODY WIFE JUST FOR PLEASURE AND DID NOT WANT TO KNOW HER LATER ON.

ASK SOME PEOPLE IN SIEM REAP IN THE SAME GENERATION OF HIM, THEY CAN TELL ALL ABOUT " CHHAY HOK " NOW SON HOK CHHAY.

SON WAS NOT HIS REAL SIRNAME, WHEN HE WORKED FOR SON SAN HE TOOK SON SIRNAME SO PEOPLE WOULD THINK THAT HE WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH SON SAN FAMILY LINK.

BEWARE OF THE SNEAK " CHHAY HOK "

SRP at time of spy's claim, should act as a STANDING STONE! If you are of good quality, nothing breaks you to pieces. This will be another failed attempt to divide YOU. Continue to do what you believe that is best for Cambodia. We count on you. Be brave Mr Son!
You gain even more our respect and trust.
