Cambodian government urges public to help fight corruption
Chheuy Roeurn, vice president of Cambodia's Anti-Corruption Authority (ACA), on Thursday called on the public to cooperate with ACA to find more evidence for its crackdown on corruption cases.
"From now on, I request all civil society institutions to closely cooperate with the authority to collect proofs and evidences to fight against corruption and lead to arrest of corruption-makers and bribers," he said.
He made these remarks at the Council of Ministers, after receiving the Clean Palm Declaration from four civil society institutions, who collected about 200,000 signatures and thumb prints from the public in support for the government to urge the National Assembly to pass the Anti-Corruption Law soon.
"Corruption disrupts the economic development of our country. It is the rust that destroys the economic growth and the dignity of our people. It hugely affected the foreign investors," he said.
The Anti-Corruption Law has been under debate for a long time and the government allows civil society institutions and donor countries to provide ideas and criticism so as to help make the law match the international standard, he said.
The ACA, which was established in this August, carried out its first major blow earlier this month to unearth 38 customs officials and police chief of Bunteay Mean Chey province for importing and smuggling about 800 right-rubber luxurious vehicles from Thailand in violation of the government's sub-decree.
Cambodia was ranked 130 in the 2005 Corruption Perception Index published by Transparency International, where a list of 158 countries was outlined and the least corrupt one was placed first.

There are two things that Hun Sen wanted to be remebered of,
-a common man can do great things before reaching 50's,
-a leader can pacify nation and enemies after passing 50's in reaching graceful death,
If he likes to reach his full golden age and death in grace, he must start to listen and take care the majority poor instantly.
Poor had nothing to be scare of but poverty, thus Hun Sen knew what 's poverty.
Poverty is like over flow water, soon it will overcome the barrier in full dynamic thrust.
