General Lon Nol believed American and you, King Believed China and coorporated with The Vietcong? That still remain a mystery until today.
On March 18th of 1970, what were you doing in Russia? You should stay at home or went to England, France or Canada or Autralia. Russia was just not a good idea or place at all. You were giving a chance for General Lon Nol to confirm his suspision of your motivation of coorporation with the Communist. The world wasn't exactly the same as you. Beside the safety of Cambodia from the Viet which you had thought China would be a big help, there are Giant people like the American. Who could have blaimed General Lon Nol for doing what he did?
It would be like now, you are trying to negociate with The Al-Quita for the American. That would be too much to do. King of Jordan with a wife of a Palestinian descent would not dare, but instead trying to pursuit peace and assisting all humanitarian needs tru his good will at home. We care for the safety of General Lon Nol as much as you, but we didn't have a choise. We had to go with the flow and somehow we came to a conclusion that you could have been kinder and more understanding of the American and her friends and just staying out of China and Russia for the time being. 4 years under general Lon Nol's rule wasn't all that pretty. Young Cambodian were dying almost everyday in the war. Goods and services were becoming way too expensive that we were almost could not bare. We were in tormoil and fearful of the next machine guns and bombs or rockets everyday.
We wanted you back and we want peace, but you came with a monster!
Please at least teach your favorite government today to be kind and understanding of our people and tell them to know their time when they should go. Cambodia needs new leadership and we need your help. Good luck and best wishes with the KR's trail and The new government, or if you should win the next the election, please save the Monarchy and treat as British citizens treat their Queen and her family.

I am not debating whether your policy was right or wrong during your reign up to the event of March 18th 1970. However, you had numerous opportunities after the coup to avoid bloodshed. Sadly, you chose to side with the Khmer Rouge and to appeal to "your people" to join you in to prey marquis leading to the killing field after your victory in April 17th, 1975. Lon Nil was a Cambodian politician and brother of Prime Minister Lon Nol. While King Norodom Sihanouk was on a trip abroad in Beijing, China, on March 18, 1970, Prince Sirik Matak assisted Prime Minister Lon Nol, in organzing a vote of the National Assembly to depose Siahnouk as head of state and to himself emergency powers.
Lon Nil was in the countryside of Cambodia monitoring the villages when Sihanouk made a public appeal in China for Cambodians to join with the Khmer Rouge and revolt against the government. In Kompong Cham, a group seized Lon Nil, killed him and tore his liver from his stomach. It was then taken into a Chinese restaurant, where the owner was ordered to cook and slice it. It was then served to people in the immediate area.

On March 18, 1970, while Norodom Sihanouk was on a trip abroad in Beijing, China, Sirik Matak assisted Prime Minister Lon Nol in organzing a vote of the National Assembly to depose Sihanouk as head of state. The measure passed easily in parliament and they declared a new government under a democracy named the Khmer Republic. Sihanouk realigned himself with the communist Khmer Rouge rebels who had been slowly gaining territory in the remote mountain regions and urged his followers to help in overthowing the government of Lon Nol, hastening the onset of civil war.
The Fall of Phnom Penh
The Khmer Rouge initiated their dry-season offensive to capture the beleaguered Cambodian capital on January 1, 1975. Their troops controlled the banks of the Mekong River, and they were able to rig ingenious mines to sink convoys bringing relief supplies of food, fuel, and ammunition to the slowly starving city. After the river was effectively blocked in early February, the United States began airlifts of supplies. This was extremely risky because of Khmer Rouge rockets. The communists also fired rockets and shells into the city, causing many civilian deaths. Doomed units of republican soldiers dug in around the capital; many of them had run out of ammunition, and they were overrun as the Khmer Rouge advanced. American observers, who generally had little esteem for the Khmer National Armed Forces (FANK) officer corps, were impressed by the determination of the enlisted men to fight to the end to protect the capital of Phnom Penh from the Khmer Rouge to capture the city and take over the Khmer Republic government.
On April 1, 1975, President Lon Nol resigned and fled the country into exile in Hawaii because the Khmer Rouge with the approval of King Norodom Sihanouk, had published a death list with his name at the top and their forces had surrounded the capital of Phnom Penh.
On April 12, 1975, United States's Ambassador to Cambodia John Gunther Dean, invited high officials of the Khmer Republic political asylum in the Untied States, but Sirik Matak, Long Boret, Lon Non (Lon Nol's brother), and most members of Lon Nol's cabinet declined thinking that Sihanouk would not allow the Khmer Rouge to kill them. Sirik Matak and Lon Non, Long Boret and other Khmer Republic officials whose names were not published on the death list chose to stay behind. Additionally, they made the assumption that either the Khmer Rouge would be moderate in victory or that King Norodom Sihanouk could restrain them.
Prince Sirik Matak and the officials that remained along with him, were executed by the Khmer Rouge on April 21, 1975, in Phnom Penh.
The political mistake is from all the corners. I would not blame only Sihanouk though he might do a great mistake in political decision. Cambodian younger generations should all learn these mistakes and prevent future ones. Why should there be Sihanouk regime, blue khmer parties, red khmer parties who attempted just to kill each other and have never sat down like a whold khmer families to discuss what our leaders, people should do. Sihanouk was fooled with composition/taking of film, video and songs, playing with different girls without caring deeply the country's vital life. Have Blue khmer parties in the sihanouk government (Lon Nol) done some best things? History showed all kinds of corruptions in the military and police and civil administration during half end of 1960s. Moreover, different secret killing outside courts were reported. Who did these things??? Khiev Samphan himself blamed of being attempted to arrest by Lon Nol (as prime minister of sihanouk regime). Red Khmer of khmer rouge were fooled by its foolish ideology. They have never listened to anyone, not talked to anyone, secretely done something to gain power and also kill people.
If khmer want to see our country in the world mape, the best thing to do is to stop killing each other under the surface. We should talk to each other as the whole family. Take others' opinions into account for our nation's interest. Leaders stop wasting time by palying girls and forgetting all nation's issues. Take an example of Sihanouk and Rannariddh who are royal blood and were fooled with girls without serving fully our nation. Hun Sen stops killing your challengers!!! We all are khmer, we want ust to join each other to develop our country and to protect our territory. If you don't align Vietnam, you don't follow vitnam's strategy, just show your tranparency, speaking out about our territory loss under the new treaty, speaking out about the illegal immigrations and protect more our nation's interest and our people's interest.
Hope we can find out good path to rid our country from disappearing from world mape.
