A fight for ownership of the party sign occurred in 3 communes in Prey Chhor district, Kompong Cham province, pitting the Norodom Ranariddh Party (NRP) and the Funcinpec party.

Nget Sarin, NRP regional office director in Prey Chhor district, told RFA that he was about to have someone paint and change the NRP party sign when Sao Sros, the Funcinpec deputy provincial governor of Kompong Cham, and several of his party colleagues came to wrestle the sign from him, and took the sign to the police station of Prey Chhor district while claiming that the sign is the property of Funcinpec.

Nget Sarin added that the Funcinpec sign bearing the picture of Prince Ranariddh was paid by Ok Socheat (current advisor to Prince Ranariddh) since 1991: “The sign belongs to Prince Norodom Ranariddh who installed it since 1991. Now, I am redecorating it for the prince again. The sign was paid by H.E. Ok Socheat who gave $30 to erect the sign in front of the house and on the stair of my house which is now the NRP party office. Suddenly, I saw they (Funcinpec group) came over, stopped the car, came inside the house, they look at everything and they said they absolutely do not allow it to be changed, they took the sign.”

Nouv Sovathero, Funcinpec spokesman, explained on the case above that the Funcinpec sign was the common property of the party. Party members who are not satisfied with their membership, have the right to join another party, but they cannot take along properties belonging to Funcinpec party.

Nouv Sovathero said: “NRP took Funcinpec sign and make it theirs, that’s not possible because it is Funcinpec’s property. Therefore Funcinpec has the full right to take back the sign, it is legal, there was no threat issued if they did not do anything wrong.”

Prince Norodom Ranariddh was kicked out from the party presidency by his colleagues during a special party congress held on 18 Oct. He went on to form the fledgling NRP.

Since then, non stop disputes have occurred such as the dispute for position in the Senate, the National Assembly, ownership of party headquarters and party signs.

Mr. Nget Sarin, Would you mind request Prince NRN some money for the sign. He is sitting on multi million dollars accounts. Anyone out there can tell him about this?

6:34 AM, Nanaridh is not going to give his own money to buy the signs. This moron creates the party for power and money. If he ever comes to North America, I am going to give him the middle finger. Sdach mouk krass.
