Moneakseka Khmer
Translated from Khmer
Kong Korm, Senate member and vice chairman of the Sam Rainsy Party [SRP] who once was a senior leader of the Cambodian People's Party and also of the State of Cambodia of which Ho Chi Minh was an architect and the great guide, granted the following interview to a Moneakseka Khmer reporter:
Question: You used to say that 2 December 1978 and 7 January 1979 were historic days created by Vietnam to cover up and serve its aggression against and control of Cambodia. Why?
Answer: The liberal democrats together with all the Cambodian people, victims of the Khmer Rouge regime, as well as the United Nations considered 2 December and 7 January merely as the days of revival of the communists, especially communist Vietnam and its lackeys. From 2 December and 7 January to the day known as the sham pullout of the aggressor Vietnamese troops or to the signing of the Paris peace agreement known as the superficial end of Vietnam's control over Cambodia and the Cambodian people, in reality, the Vietnamese did not give up their strategy of holding negotiations in order to undermine negotiations, reaching an agreement to destroy the agreement, and unifying for the sake of doing away with unification. This means that no matter how big a force or a sacrifice is called for, it is absolutely imperative not to let go of 2 December and 7 January.
I, Kong Korm, who under the Pol Pot regime used to live in the Eastern Zone, Region 20, in current Ponhea Krek district, Kampong Cham province, can be a witness among many other people who saw and knew very well that the Vietnamese troops had invaded Cambodia's Eastern Zone since January 1978. The Pol Pot Khmer Rouge, as well as the 2 December-7 January Khmer Rouge who splintered either from the Pol Pot group or from Hanoi, all admitted that without Vietnam there could be no events of 2 December and 7 January, for a large number of 2 December Front members and 7 January victory leaders were former army deserters and prisoners of war of the aggressor Vietnamese troops. They were recruited and organized by Vietnam to cover up and serve its aggression against and control of Cambodia. Even the supreme patriarch, a member of the Front, was ordained just to deceive people. Some people said that in the past it was the Front for the salvation of lifeless Cambodia; now it is the Front for the development of landless Cambodia.
Question: Nevertheless, many citizens are of the opinion that it is thanks to 2 December and 7 January that life has approved. What do you think?
Answer: In reality, 2 December and 7 January carried on the destruction and tragedy of Cambodia and the Cambodian people no less severely than in the time before that. The Cambodian fratricidal war in service of the aggressors should never be forgotten. I can assure you that without the Paris agreement and the success of 1993 in which the Cambodian voters overwhelmingly defeated the power of 2 December and 7 January, there would be no Constitution and no changes that we now enjoy. Large segments of national and international opinions judged that without the mechanism that lacked goodwill and was incompetent, a mechanism left behind to succeed 2 December and 7 January as an obstacle and contention, the restoration and development of democracy, state of law, respect for human rights, good governance, and poverty reduction certainly would have been accomplished many times faster and greater than what we have today. Lately, events have shown the voters that the dupers won the elections and grabbed power for three terms and each time they threw out gifts as baits to fish for this power. Once they won the power, they scrambled by all means to make money and take back what they had invested and more. This has made the powers-that-be and their associates much richer than ever, but it has rendered the ordinary businessmen and the poor more difficult to survive, more miserable, more destitute, without jobs, work, shelters, or land. There are an increasing number of people who had land but saw their land shrink to the point that they could not live off their land. Some sufferers said that the scary practice of using gifts as baits to fish for power was like the practice under Pol Pot in which those who were to die were given foods and presented with new scarves before being clubbed to death.
Question: In 2007 and 2008 there will be the commune/precinct council elections and general elections, what is your expectation?
Answer: War kills and makes people miserable. Corruption, too, kills and brings misery to mankind. The lessons in the world show that the cruel authoritarian power and the corrupt, nepotistic power are the same thing. The experiences in Indonesia and the Philippines show that no matter how powerful the corrupt and despotic Soeharto and Marcos were, no matter how much money they had, and no matter how far and wide the upt, food and presented with new scarves before beir security networks spread, the people's power could always uproot and dismantle them. In order to really speed up democracy, enhance good governance, and reduce poverty so that Cambodia becomes a country that can compete with its neighbors and has strong, rapid development, it is necessary that the voters must unhesitatingly decide to change the power from bottom up in 2007 and 2008.

First time I start to respect you mr. Kong! Since I learned you were the ex-heng Sarim.
I was wrong you are a good Cambodian and I salut you!
Yep if there were no 1991 Peace Accord; Cambodia would not be the same today. The Vietnamese gov't would probably rule Cambodia and letting their people in Cambodia without any control. I believe that is very true and that is why the CPP is trying to discredit the 1991 Peace Accord as an important day in the history of Cambodia. But for the Vietnamese gov't, its try to control is still continue until today through secret deals, agreements it has been making with the CPP. Very sad!!!
The Vietnamese did not leave Cambodia on its own. It wants to stay in Cambodia and it wants Cambodia. For the CPP to appreciate 7th January is the no brainer Cambodian People party. It is not for the Cambodian People Party, it is for the Vietnamese People Party. How do you appreciate the Vietnamese gov't whose one hand saved Cambodia and on the other hand stole Cambodia. It does not take a rocket scientist to figuring that out. Nationalist CPP members who love Cambodia, let chang the course to work for your own kind, the Cambodian people!
Finally someone has unglued his butt and started to do serious work
for his country.
