Arrest warrants have been issued for two Sam Rainsy Party supporters in Kompong Cham province who are accused of assaulting a CPP commune police chief in a case that has already been labeled politically motivated by lawyers for the accused.
The latest warrants follow after the Nov 27 arrest of villager and SRP supporter San Ho who had spent more than a month on the run following allegations he beat Preah Theat commune police chief Chor Hay. San Ho, however, claims that he was the victim of Chor Hay's assault following an argument that erupted at a dance party on Oct 28.
Human rights workers and lawyers have drawn attention to the injuries San Ho received on the night of the incident, which they say proves that he was the victim of an assault and not the perpetrator of one.
"Police hit his head with a rifle and his head was smashed...Ten witnesses saw police hitting him in the head and the blood on his shirt," San Ho's lawyer Chhit Sarith said on Friday.
Kompong Cham Provincial Court issued two arrest warrants on Nov 24 for Ny Phal, 26, and Chhan Sinat 34, who are also accused of conspiracy in the alleged assault on the commune police chief Chhit Sarith said.
"The speed with which the court has acted on this case means that it is a political matter aimed at SRP activists," Chhit Sarith alleged. "In some case the court cannot solve a case for as a long as one or two years. And in some cases, the court doesn't even pay attention."
Kompong Cham court Investigating Judge Sim Kuch denied a political bias was responsible for the swiftness with which the suspects were identified and arrest warrants issued.
"It is not about politics. It is about beating a police officer," he said.
Chhit Sarith said that Ny Phal and Chhan Sinat have both fled their homes for fear of arrest.

Beating a police officer, while the perpetrator had also been bruised and battered? It is almost certain that politics play apart in this matter.
Please, next time, have a picture of the police officer on the blog so I can see who the tough cop was. I want his face and the judgge. If I have a chance I will cut his head offf. Or I will buy his life. The tough police officer will be tough in Hell. Please, put picture of all tough cops on the Blog for us to see. We want to visit his family.
It is not that bad. It is another chance SRP looks forward to manipulate the harassment for some political gain.

Anonymous 4:15 PM What do you mean "It is not that bad and SRP will gain from this? One of the activists was jailed for nothing and several other were running away for lives. SRP already lost many activists to help them. It scared more people to vote for SRP because of the threat for the bastard CPP. While some people feel sorry for what happened, but others will be scared for their life. Therefore, there is no gain politically and it very bad for SRP.
