Police Still Hunting SRP Commune Councilor's Killer

By Prak Chan Thul
The Cambodia Daily

A trainee police officer who shot an SRP commune councilor dead in Kompong Cham province on Oct 20 remains at large, authorities said on Friday. Long Sopheak, the 22-year-old son of CPP deputy district governor Long Seam allegedly shot SRP commune councilor Thoeng Thea, 27, in the head in Ponhea Khrek district after provoking an argument with the SRP member over political parties, rights workers and witnesses said. "We can't arrest Long Sopheak yet," Seng Sokhim, provincial deputy police chief, said Friday. "But we have an arrest warrant and a photo of him." Seng Sokhim denied that police were dragging their heels in the case. "It is not political," he said. "We don't care about politics. If they are criminals, they will be arrested."

I hope the police chief is not simply talking smack. Until we see this convicted-murderer locked in jail for many years, Seng Sokhim's words are just that words with no action.

This culprit is a son of CPP menber that is why we could not get him yet. But we hope soon he will be cought. Don't let him stay alive, cut his head offf. You have to do very very secret. I think you know how to do it without any public know about it.
