Arrest made in pair's killing [- One of the victim is a Cambodian-American teenager]

The last time Chantha Nhun saw her son alive, she chided him for allowing a boy she did not trust into their North Side apartment.

Her son, Johnny You, got mad and left the apartment along with the unwelcome youth — Chris Meadoux, his close friend and a fellow evacuee from Hurricane Katrina. He did not return.

Three days later, You, 17, was found barely alive with a cut to his neck and multiple gunshot wounds to the head in the bedroom of a burning Northeast Side home, police said. You, a Southwest Preparatory School senior, died soon after.

Luis Martinez, 19, was found dead and burned inside the same bedroom. Someone had shot him multiple times in the head and neck.

Police arrested Meadoux, 16, a 10th-grader at Wagner High School, on Thursday in the double homicide. Charged with capital murder, he remained in the Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center on Thursday.

Martinez, You and Meadoux — all friends — had been staying at another friend's house in the 8300 block of Parry Path at least since Sunday. The three friends were the only ones home when the killings occurred Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

For unknown reasons, the youths began fighting inside the home, and You and Martinez were fatally wounded, police said. Someone then set fire to the bedroom.

Police arrested Meadoux early Thursday morning at a house in the 5000 block of Coral Flounder. Inside, they found a rifle that had been taken from the house on Parry Path, police spokesman Sgt. Gabe Trevino said.

A motive in the killings remained unclear Thursday, authorities said.

Prosecutors likely will file a motion to certify Meadoux as an adult, said Jill Mata, chief of the Bexar County district attorney's juvenile division. They would weigh the offense itself, the child's alleged role in the offense and any history the child might have, she said.

"The kid has had some contact with police in the past few months," said Mata, declining to give specifics other than saying those offenses were minor.

Thursday, friends and relatives of the victims registered shock at the suddenness and brutality of the slayings. For Chris Gutierrez, a friend of the victims and the suspect, the news made no sense.

Gutierrez had just played pool with the three friends the night before the killings.

"Everything was all good," said Gutierrez, 20. "You go to sleep and everything's OK. You wake up and two of your friends are dead."

Gutierrez said he and his friends never fought but sometimes playfully hassled each other.

"We always play around," he said. "And Chris is the guy we always mess with."

Martinez's parents, Betsy and Jose Villamil, had never met Meadoux before the killings, which occurred a few days after their son's birthday.

"It's just overwhelming," Betsy Villamil said. "I feel just numb. I can't believe it."

Martinez, an avid skateboarder, met Meadoux about one month ago, his friends said.

You and Meadoux met in March 2005, when they both lived in Slidell, La., and forged a close friendship. Hurricane Katrina roared to shore six months later, and their respective families relocated to San Antonio.

The two youths stayed close. They played pool and watched movies. Meadoux, known by friends as "Chris Albino," often visited You's apartment, where Nhun, a native of Cambodia, would make him curry soup and other Cambodian dishes.

"He come in my house, he sleep here," Nhun said indignantly.

In early January, Nhun came to distrust her son's friend and told You the boy no longer was allowed in their home, she said.

Sunday morning, Nhun awoke to find Meadoux in her son's bedroom. She got mad, and the two youths left. Thursday, Nhun sobbed at the realization that her son would never return.

"Before my husband died, he said take care of him, but I can't take care of him," the mother said. "I don't know why, I don't know why."

Don't make a joke like this, no brain. If your mother, father, sister, brother, children, or spouse died, you think you're a middle east dude. No brain and shut up. You must be a Taleban.

Sorry for the mother, she noticed her son's friend behavior before her son died, but the boy disobeyed the mother. I won't allow my children sleepover nor their friends in my house. When the parent allows one time, they will ask for another. Therefore, the bottom line is no sleep over.

Here's what I see:
---------------------------------
Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
This sociological study and true-crime expose tells of the rootless young Vietnamese males sent out of the country by their families as the Saigon regime was collapsing and, after months or years in refugee camps, placed with foster families in the U.S. Some of these youths became the nucleus of New York City's Chinatown Born to Kill gang and were as violent as their name suggests. They made money "protecting" merchants and through holdups and invasions of homes, and their victims were always other Asians. One of their number, Tinh Ngo, was repelled by the gang's bloodthirstiness and became a police informant. Thanks to him and to city and federal officers, seven of the gang were apprehended, tried in 1992 and given long prison sentences, the leader, David Thai, getting life. English, who previously authored The Westies, an account of Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen Irish, has hit the bulls-eye again. Photos not seen by PW.

Nothing about Hanoi, but Saigon.

Why nothing about Hanoi? Is it not Vietnam from South(Kampcuhea Krom), Central (Champa) to North (Hue) are under control of Hanoi led by the man named Minh? Yes Vietnam has too many ethnic groups, but those "Minh", for example were in South long prior to the collapse of Bao Dai, and/or Ngo.
Without the infiltration from North such as Minh etc..
How can South (Saigon) can be defeated? They're the products from North, Yuan Hue.

Now, yeah, Hanoi (as the capitol)
is controling vietnam, but the
Khmer Krom gangters left before
Hanoi took over. Thus, Hanoi has
nothing to do with gang in the US.

Most of you are severely retarded. You can't blame a specific group for violent. In any poverty stricken society, there is bound to be gangs and violence, because that is how society operate. When there is no hope, nobody to turn to, no back up, and no care in the world, youths turn to gang and violence. It happens to every ethnic group.

Hey, we are talking about gangs in
the US.

What is your take on that?

i think the guy post 5:57 AM is a loser himself. he is one of those the u.s deported to cambodia. now he writes comics for hun sen. fool! you are nonsense. you have nothing good to say about yourself fool!

What I don't understand is why people start vilifying other nationalities when the newspaper article described the plight of a Cambodian woman whose son was led astray by another boy. The son died at the hands of the bad company he kept. What does that have to do with Born to Kill gangs, etc., or other nationalities. I know a Khmer family in the U. S. The surviving mother has 5 sons, 4 of whom did well, and unfortunately, the youngest ran with the wrong crowd and got into drugs. But this happens in all ethnic groups in the U. S. as well. So, don't let hatred cloud your vision. Only ignorant people always blame others for their own misfortune.

Just wanted to prove to those ignorant Yuan & pro-Yuan saying that Yuan are good, but in facts those Yuan're born to kill too.

There are killer everywhere, but
Yuon Khmer Krom Extremists from
Saigon (HCMC) are the worse.
Unlike Yuon Hanoi who worked hard
to better their life, Youn Khmer
Krom always want to take the easy
path by robing and abusing people
everywhere, just like they abused
Thousands of Khmer people in
Cambodia and blamed it on Youn
Hanoi who is not even at the crime
scenes.

Little do Yuon Khmer Krom
Extremists know that we aint fool
by their tricks and conspiracies.

So Pham Van Dung is KK?
Nice try to Divide Khmers with your Yuan propaganda. KK never be parasite Yuan.
You an't fooled by but you confessed that the trouble makers in Cambodia are Yuan named Pham Van Dung. And you further confessed that you are Yuan, the thief.

Name does not mean squad, dude.
Say, a Yuon guy married with
a khmer woman. The kid will bear
Yuon name, am I right? If so, your
point has been smashed to shits
because the kid has khmer blood.

Anonymous said...

Hi Yuan 9:39 AM. You get it all wrong.

What type of Law or DNA to prove us the public that the child who bears the father name, for example if father is Yuan, then the child has to be Yuan. NO.

I am bearing my British name from my father, but I love Khmer people.
Do you get what i am at?

The child can bear his mother's last name and it does not have to be his father. Jane Fonda's children bearing Jane Fonda's last name, like Brigitte Fonda.
Your resoning is baseless to say the child HAS to bear his father name.

In the Jews community both Jew men and women's children and does not matter whom they married to the children will be always raised as Jews.

In the case of KK or the native of South Vietnam (KKK), some of these native KKK want to stay the way they are like the Jews then nothing you can do about it.

Remember "Bearing the name does not mean the child is automatically Yuan, the child will grow up and will choose which side the child wants to be. And if the child tells you to shut up mind your own business because of his name "Yuan", no way. History tells us that the Yuan forced even killed those native KKK to adopt Yuan name, but still they want to be KK. I met many of them like last name Chau, Treung, Danh, etc.. but they are KK.

By the way you did not respond to my comments. Your comment is sloppy not according to my comments. You seem to be too proud what your ancestors did commit crimes against other nations. You get to understand that your ancestors must have done too many evil things toward Khmers that's why Khmer hate Yuan too much. Mixing by marriage and/or trying to divide Khmers, is sure evil, and Khmers know.

Hey, you are the one who think a
person with Vietnamese cannot be

All along, I have been telling you
that name don't mean shit many
