Cambodia to hold meeting with Laos, Vietnam to contain bird flu

January 20, 2007

Officials from Cambodian Ministry of Health will soon hold a tri-party meeting with their Laotian and Vietnamese counterparts in order to co-contain the spread of bird flu, Jian Hua Daily reported on Saturday.

In the meeting to be held in Vietnam, the three sides will exchange anti-bird flu experiences, especially their solutions for management of human mobility and poultry trade across their borders, the newspaper quoted ministry officials as saying.

The three countries used to carry out sporadic anti-bird flu cooperation along their borders, but the principle of cooperation has not been set yet, it said.

According to local reports, there are more crossings along Cambodia's border with Vietnam than that with Laos, which means that the kingdom will face more difficulty in handling the border issues with Vietnam.

Currently, Thailand is the only neighbor country, with which Cambodia holds formal cooperation to counter the epidemic.

are to combat H5N1 virus
successfully.

Hmm ... I wish Thailand could
participate, but I guess they are
in a mess right now from the
recent coup.
