The website of former Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk, at www.norodomsihanouk.info, on 22 January 2007 posted a three-page handwritten item in French, datelined "Beijing 8 January 2007", in which the former monarch talked about the saga of his son, Norodom Ranariddh, the latter's former wife, Marie Eng Ranariddh, and the future of the newly setup Norodom Ranariddh Party [NRP].

In his item Sihanouk quoted Ranariddh as saying that "Mrs Marie Eng no longer has the right to have herself referred to as 'Princess Norodom Ranariddh." Sihanouk then recalled that when he was still king, he signed a decree granting the title of "Princess" to Ranariddh's spouse whose maiden name was Marie Eng. Sihanouk also said that "His Majesty Preah Norodom Sihamoni could not 'think of' any royal decree to cancel the 'previous' decree' regarding the princely title accorded by King N. Sihanouk to 'commoner' Marie Eng."

Continuing Sihanouk said: "Today (early January 2007), numerous compatriots (young, adults, and elderly) hate and despise Princess Marie (not to be confused with the Virgin Saint), because Marie ex-Ranariddh has the 'very bad idea' to ask our national 'Justice' to condemn with a prison sentence (I no longer know for what 'crime') the prince [Ranariddh]." Sihanouk went on to say:

"If Samdech Krom Preah [SKP] N. Ranariddh were condemned with a prison term, his 'Norodom Ranariddh Party', in principle, would 'fall through'. He (Ranariddh), in principle, could no longer play any role, state, politic, and so on."

Sihanouk then talked about the sympathy people had for Marie earlier against Ranariddh's mistress, Ouk Phalla, saying that "now" people found that Marie is 'nasty', 'mean', and 'capable of ruining politically and morally' her ex-husband who is the father of three charming innocent children, also her own (two sons and one daughter)." Still referring to Ranariddhm Sihanouk added: "A man may be corrupt (like so many other personalities) but always respected by the People, and a genuine democrat."

Concluding his three-page handwritten item in French Sihanouk quoted people who talked about the future of the Norodom Ranariddh Party saying that "a great number of citizens even found SKP Ranariddh 'adorable' and even went as far as 'looking down' on 'FUNCINPEC' "; and that those people "have declared that at the communal elections in 2007 and in the general legislative elections in 2008, they will certainly vote for the Norodom Ranariddh Party 'even if the SKP [Ranariddh] should go to prison' ... [ellipsis as published] 'provided that his Party be maintained and headed by a valid replacement-representative, for example His Serene Highness Samdech Norodom Chakrapong."

Sihanouk ended his item saying "no comment on my part."
