The German government has donated over 1.5 million U.S. dollars to Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC), Kem Sophoan, director of CMAC, said on Thursday.
The finance will be used for clearing mines in Siem Reap and Oddar Mean Chey provinces, Kem Sophoan told Xinhua, adding that the agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister Sok An with German Ambassador Pius Fisher to Cambodia last week.
"In Siem Reap province, CMAC will cooperate closely with the APSARA authority to clean the mines surrounding the old temples compound,"he said.
Last week, seven deminers of the CAMC staff were killed by anti- tank mines in Kamrieng district, Battambang province and five children were injured by two mines, too, Kem Sophoan said.
Due to 30 years of armed conflicts, Cambodia has become one of the world's most heavily mined countries with an estimated four million to six million of such "hidden killers" buried underground as extensively as some 2,900 square kilometers.
