Opposition exposes cheating by the NEC (1)

In a press conference held yesterday, the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) gave documents to journalists and other observers showing the involvement of the National Election Committee (NEC) in a cheating case to favor the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP). The case is related to registration of candidates for the upcoming commune council election and involves forgery.

CPP threatens to confiscate land from SRP supporters (2)

Because 80 percent of Cambodians are poor farmers and land grabbing by the powerful is a hot issue and a source of concern for the powerless, the CPP can easily threaten villagers to confiscate their lands if they support the opposition. The SRP has exposed cases of intimidation that resulted in farmers being forced to stop running as candidates for the opposition for the upcoming commune council election. Interior Ministry: 65, 831 voters of Vietnamese descent (3)

According to statistics from the Interior Ministry as of 9 June 2006, Cambodia's population include 12,719,387 inhabitants with Cambodian citizenship, of which 112,225 are of Vietnamese descent who might have come to Cambodia after 1979. There are 7,293,602 eligible voters, of which 65,831 relatively new citizens of Vietnamese descent. There are no figures available concerning foreigners who have not acquired Cambodian citizenship yet, especially those from illegal immigration.

Polemics about Kem Sokha's to-be-formed political party (2)

After the revelation by Kem Sokha, the president of the foreign-funded Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR), that he is considering forming a political party because "many people [who come to listen to him at CCHR public forums] are encouraging [him] to do so", there have been several, though indirect, reactions from both the ruling party and the opposition.

In two successive articles yesterday and today, the pro-CPP newspaper Rasmei Kampuchea seems to welcome Kem Sokha's move because it would split the forces that oppose Prime Minister Hun Sen, who has just vowed to remain in power until the age of 90 (some 35 more years to endure for the Cambodian people! By comparison, Fidel Castro is only 80 years old now). For articles in Khmer, click here and here.

Also in two successive articles, the pro-SRP newspaper Moneaksekar Khmer notices Kem Sokha's poor performances as a political leader when, as Secretary-General of the now defunct Son Sann Party, he led his party into disaster in 1998, with the party losing all its seats at the National Assembly (Kem Sokha then joined Funcinpec to occupy a royalist seat at the Senate). The major reason why Kem Sokha has to form a political party now is because he needs some leverage to negotiate a deal with Hun Sen in order for him to escape prosecution following corruption and embezzlement lawsuits that former CCHR employees have filed against him (see KI, 25 November 2006: "Court will summon Kem Sokha again"). Articles in Khmer are available here and here.

What is wrong with these Cambodian people? Cannot Kem Sokha work with Sam Rainsy for the sake of Cambodia? I am so fed up with the opposition groups.
Kem Sokha needs to read about Ghandi trillion times and practice it before he makes a foolish of himself and may lead to lose more lives.

I wonder who can work with Sam Rainsy. Sam Rainsy never listens to anyone but his bitchy wife. SRP needs to change its name and its leadership. SRP is a family party, not a party for democratic Cambodians. If you don't need a new party, I need it because I won't vote for any of the three parties: SRP, CCP and FUNCINPEC. Don't just think about yourself. Other Cambodians need a new party. And you have no right to stop anyone from their political participation.

To who all call yourselves politicians or whatever, let me ask you all, why you are Cambodian never know how to learn from the past, work together in the present that prepare for a better future? You all, CPP (Cambodian People Poverty), Funcipec (Fuck Unlimited, Nothing, Crazy, Incapable People...) and SRP (Sam's Rainy Penis)Your all cheating Cambodian People and utilize their lives for your own clain's pewer! I know you're getting used to think that Cambodian People are Illiteracy and easy to cheat so that you can manipulate their lives and blood. Stop being foolish now you guys.
