SRP Calls For A Massive Popular Protest Against Continuously High Gasoline Price

SRP CALLS FOR A MASSIVE POPULAR PROTEST
AGAINST CONTINUOUSLY HIGH GASOLINE PRICE

Today, the latest news indicate that "international oil price fell to a 20-month low, within striking distance of the psychologically key $50 line, marking an 18 percent slide so far this month. The market has plunged more than 35 percent since hitting a record peak of $78.40 a barrel in July 2006."

Finance Minister Keat Chhon is violating the Constitution (Article 96) by stubbornly refusing to answer Member of Parliament Sam Rainsy's repetitive questions about the high level of gasoline price in Cambodia at a time when international crude oil price is plummeting.

On January 12, 2007 the opposition Sam Rainsy Party issued the following statement:

Today, for the second time in two months, opposition leader Sam Rainsy wrote to Finance Minister Keat Chhon asking him the following question: Why has gasoline retail price in Cambodia remained practically unchanged (at about 4,000 riels or nearly $1 per liter) over the last 6 months while crude oil price in the international market has dropped by over 32 percent during the same period of time? (Click here for full text of the letter in Khmer)

On January 13, 2007, Sam Rainsy sent the following message to the press:

ABOUT GASOLINE PRICE IN CAMBODIA
I refer to my 12 January 2007 letter to Finance Minister Keat Chhon about gasoline price.

International price of crude oil:
  • In mid-July 2006: $78 per barrel (1 barrel = 159 liters). At that time, gasoline retail price in Cambodia was 4,200 riels per liter.
  • In mid-January 2007: $53 per barrel, which represents a 32 percent decline over the last 6 months for crude oil price.
If the decrease in crude oil price is fully passed on to consumers in Cambodia, all other things being equal, gasoline retail price in our country should not exceed 3,200 riels per liter.

The Sam Rainsy Party will call for a massive popular protest in Phnom Penh early next month if the Government continues to ignore questions from Parliament and if, in the meantime, there is no significant decrease in gasoline price in Cambodia.

While I support the SRP stance on this issue. However, I wish that SRP should have done more on the issue of borders with neighboring, especially, when Hun Sen signed a supplmental treaty last year with VN.

SRP should have called on the population to demonstrate in this regard.

As Khmers, we have to decide what is major issue to us.

Borders is a major issue for Khmers throughout historic times.

I agreed that Sam Rainsy should do more on the border issue. However, I do not think that anyone can talk about this sensitive thing, because Youn and Hun Sen will not allow. Cambodia is in the brink of collapse. Everything is controlled by Youn. You can not sing nationalist song. You can not talk about corruption, border, nepotism and other negative issues. Hun Sen will say that you are the bottom person while he is in fact the worse one.

SRP may try to clarify the following points.

What is the objective of this call for a popular protest?

How does SRP assess if the call is a success or failure?

How does SRP assess if the protest is a success or failure?

What provisions does SRP have to care for injured protestors?

What provisions does SRP have for taking over the country?

Please try to send such a message to voters. Let voters decide. All Cambodians living in Cambodia or overseas should help by disseminating the right information to our voters.

As for the what so called "border
issue", a vast number of villagers
who live near the border are very
happy with the "demarcation"
decision, which is why the
opposition can't stir up the
problem in this area.

Now they are trying to pollute
khmer's most valuable and prescious
organic land that we depend on
for healthy foods and incomes by
lower the fuel price in order to
expedite the destruction of our
environment.

What is stupidity?

6:20 PM,
I don't believe that the Khmer people are happy with their land given to Yuan by Hun Sen. Or I should say Yuan gave Khmer land to Yaun, because CPP was created by Yuan and to have Hun Sen represents CPP is only a Show. Wait until your own home being taken and leave you in cold, then come back and tell us how happy you are.
Is it not true that a group of your extreme left (Coomuist Yuan) are not happy with KK? You are not happy with the owner of the land who want their land back then you come and preach to Khmers that Khmers are happy while their homeland was robbed by your Yuan? You must be
kampuchyun2002@yahoo.com alike.

I am not aware of any land been
stolen. when/where/and how much
have been stolen? I don't see
any change in the map.

Moreover, what I said was that
they are happy with
the "DEMARCATION", nothing about
stealing.

As for KK leftwingers, I don't care
what they do so long they don't do
it in Cambodia.

And while we are on KK issue.
I like to say that there are about
14 millions of them living in
vietnam. A vast majority of them
feel more vietnamese than Khmer
since they have live with
Vietnamese around 200 years now.
A good number of them is doing
great, but some are dirt poor in
some area. And just like any poor
area or neighborhood, you'll have
high crime and trouble. And that
is what the small group of KK
extremists have been whinning
and crying about.

Over decades, the lefwingers can
accomplsh shit for their poor
people with their stupid
strategies. On the other hand,
under SomDach Hun Sen leadership,
we have achieved 10 times more
for the poor KK in vietnam in a
much shorter time. We got the
Vietnamese Government to assisted
them in Housing, food,
Medicare, ..., and job training.
Keep in mind that Vietnam is not
as rich as France, UK,..., or AU,
but they are doing whatever they
can for the innocent KK, but there
is no way for them to do anything
for the KK troublemakers and
criminal in that area. They
all will be disciplined, lock up,
just as other country does, by law
and rule of the community. And
that is the brief a story of the
KK in Vietnam.

The Khmer Krom never need anything from the Vietcong anyway and why can these fucken Vietcong leave the Khmer Krom people alone!!!I know the Vietcong are now having a second thought about controlling over 10 million Khmer Krom in Southern Vietname! Khmer Krom want all the Vietcong to get the hell out and the Khmer Krom can take care of themselves just fine!!!

If the fucken Vietcong government continue to be very stubborned and refused the right of the Khmer Krom to live as a human being than all these Vietcong deserve to be sent to hell!!

The issue of the Khmer Krom will never go away and the discussion will continue until Khmer Krom gain full independent from the Vietcong domination!!! There is no such thing as troublemaker when KK fight for freedom!!!

ahahahahah! Do you know who is the first Khmer leader to fight the French for Cambodia independent???
It is the Khmer Krom leader named Son Ngoc Thanh!!!Don't you ever forget that from now on!! The creation of Khmer Krom nation will eventually joined Cambodia!!!I know how much the Vietcong fear when all these Cambodian united and become a strong powerful nation!! Cambodia will united once again and push all the Vietcong into the sea!!!

It is true right now that the Khmer Krom movement for independent is a very isolated event and every Cambodian people must understand that it is for the benefit of all Cambodian people who share common language, religion, and heritage and blood!!Cambodia must push to the east against the Vietcong domination and oppression and only then Cambodia can focus the expansion to the west where Khmer Surin are still living under the Thaicong domination and oppression!!!!The Khmer Krom issue for independent nation is only the begining in expanding Khmer influence over the new world in South East Asia!!! Wherever the Khmer live under the foreign domination and oppression and it is the duty of all Khmer in Cambodia to free them all!!!!

As far as I am concerned the Vietcong and the Thaicong are not Cambodian people and whatever they have to say ain't going to change my perception about how Cambodia as a country should be!!!

The Vietcong and the Thaicong had been rewriting Cambodian history to fit their need and they even steal Cambodian culture and claimed as their without shame and not even give credit to the Cambodian people!!!All these motherfuckers are just a bunch of low life!!!
