Upcoming Vietnamese economic occupation of Cambodia?

25/01/2007
Cambodian provinces call for Vietnamese investments

Local authorities of three Cambodian provinces, Mundulkiri, Kratie and Kongpongcham, have committed to create best conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to invest in their localities.

The pledge was made at a seminar recently held by Vice Chairman of Binh Phuoc Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Thoa and Vietnamese Embassy Counsellor Nguyen Xuan Thuy in Cambodia with the participation of 65 Vietnamese businesses.

Cambodia had made many changes in its policies to attract foreign investors. The country is home to millions of hectares of fertile forest land suitable for developing industrial crops. The cultivation of industrial crops in Cambodia is ranked fifth among the country's nine potential priorities for investment.

Since 2003, the Viet Nam Rubber Corporation and five companies in Binh Phuoc province have grown more than 20,000 ha of industrial crops in three Cambodian provinces bordering Viet Nam. However, Viet Nam has so far been ranking 19th among the 20 nations investing in Cambodia.
