Phnom Penh Municipal Court has dropped debauchery charges against a US doctor arrested for filming himself having consensual sex with a Cambodian woman, a court official said Wednesday. Deputy Prosecutor Ngeth Sarath said that George Edward Hernesky, who was arrested Nov 7, was released on the orders of the court’s investigating judge and director Chiv Keng. Hernesky was freed because 22-year-old beer promotion worker Khieu Mithona, whom he had reportedly paid for two filmed sex sessions, did not file a complaint against him, Ngeth Sarath added. "The woman agreed to the filming," he said. Chiv Keng said he was too busy to speak to a reporter. Hernesky's private afternoon video shoot at a Phnom Penh hotel was allegedly spotted by neighbors when he opened curtains to let in more light while filming, police said at the time. Police claimed that the US national was guilty of breaking a law dealing with "any person who opens a place for committing a debauchery or obscene acts." Hernesky's lawyer Theng Meng Y said Wednesday that he could not recall his clients release date, but said both parties in the amateur sex film were consenting, and that there was no evidence against his client of wrongdoing.
