The admiral in charge of the United States Pacific Fleet, Gary Roughead is expected to visit Cambodia in the coming few weeks, a U.S. embassy spokesman confirmed Thursday.
Jeff Daigle, the embassy official, confirmed the planned visit of Roughead in an email to VOA Khmer, but he did not provide dates, details or purpose. Daigle could not be reached by phone.
Admiral Roughead's planned visit follows U.S. admiral William Fallon, a U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet commander's visit to Cambodia in July 2006, promising to increase military aid.
Minister of Defense Tea Banh could not be reached for comment. Pal Sam Oeun, the National Assembly's armed forces committee's chairman, says he has not been informed of the visit.
