Cambodia expects to receive 2 million tourists in 2007

February 09, 2007

Cambodia expects to receive 2 million tourists in 2007, local media reported on Thursday.

"We hope, based on predictions, that the number of tourists to Cambodia will grow to two million in 2007," Tourism Minister Lay Prohas was quoted by the Koh Santepheap as saying during a ministerial conference.

Deputy Prime Minister Nhiek Bun Chhay was quoted as saying that "We should advertise more broadly to attract tourists to our country, and motivate them to stay longer, travel further and spend more money, and we can do so depending on good security and a clean environment. These factors are dependent on officials of local authorities across the country's 24 municipalities and provinces,"

In 2006, Cambodia received about 1.7 million tourists, generating approximately 250,000 jobs and 1.05 billion U.S. dollars in revenues, reported the Reach Seima News.

Cambodia's tourist arrivals increased nearly 20 percent last year compared to 2005, which witnessed almost 1.5 million visitors.

Tourism and garment production are the major foreign exchange earners for Cambodia.

Okay, there is the concern with
tourist sector. I have recently
received a couple reports from our
tourists claiming that they lost
some jeweleries, gift, and
souvernirs from their luggages
after they went through our Phnom
Penh International Airport to go
back home abroad, and they were
very disapointed at the staffs in
the airport, and I believe they
are honestly telling the truth
too.

Having said that, if we are
interested in long term tourist
industry, we need to rout out these
unreliable employees and hire
a better class of people to
represent Cambodia at the gate
(the airport). If the tourist are
not coming back, the industry will
not last. Thus, we need to solve
this problem before it will be too
late.

Last, if anyone got anything stolen
from them from our airport staff,
could you spell it out for us here?

hi, today we are friend. for a change you admit something is wrong. congrats!

just for your info, here is a website from travel blog(http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Cambodia/blogs-page-1.html). although they are mostly back travelers but their experience can be valuable to us to root out problems. Poi Pet is notorious for cheating based on what I know. good luck!

Thank you for your help.
We are not trying to hide anything.
The truth is the truth. Some may
sweep it underneat the rug, but it
will not dissapear. So, what is a
sense of hiding it. Cheating and
stealing is best solved if
understand why, and work together
to try to resolve it, instead of
working against each other or
use it to promote our own poltical
interest. We will never solved that
challenging problem that way.

Having said that, I believe
cheating and stealing is a
byproduct of being poor or a social
disorder, not the entire country,
but noticeably enough people are
effected by the disorder at
different level.

I myself have stolen things when I
was a teenager, but it stop when
a started to work. I don't know
why, but in rare instance, I
have the urge to do it, hehehe.

Now, if you think your people
abroad don't have the same issues
as we do. I suggest you go through
your local police records.

Perhaps, you have less of this
disorder then us now, but that is
because you are 20-40 times richers
than us, but you can't never
solved the problem completely.

Once we learn to cheat and steal,
it will not be possible to solve
it, unless we confessed to ourself
that it is a wrong thing. You can
beat the guy until all his bone are
broken, and you still wont solve
the problem completely. The only
way is to get through is head.
this is harder for poor people to
do than it is rich for the rich
people. Hence, if we are to
have any chance to solve this
problem. We must do both, get out
of poverty and be well morally
educated at the same time, not
one by one sequentially.

Anyhow, I gage the problem is bad,
but not servere. Moreover it is
quite a challenging problem. We
tried to solved it, and it has
got better than what it used to
be, but we are not quite there
yet, and we must continue to strive
to do better.

For our airport, I believe we can
select enough honest people to
represent us at our gate, and
not allow the sick to ruin our
future. I am sure we can booby
trap them (fools), but we need
know all the baits that can
be used, hehehe.

Retard, heart and truth are
two different things. I aint here
to shared my heart, but truth.
Sometime it is good, and other time
bad. And what have I bullshited
about, moron?

hey fool of shit! now you don't understand english. i compared nothing about heart and truth. i said if you cares, speak from your heart as a true khmer. if you are not khmer, then it is another story. you know you can't manipulate me. i agree to disagree but for your case you are a defiant; similar to hun sen. isn't it? he is your teacher?

Listen carefully, retard. This is
as easy as I can put it, and it
aint gonna hurt a bit:

I am not here to share my heart.
I am here to share the truth.

There, that is 15 words with a
bunch repeats. Any word in the
two sentences too hard for you
to hack, moron?
