Funcinpec issued a statement Monday denying claims made by Prince Norodom Ranariddh in a radio interview that Funcinpec Secretary-General Nhiek Bun Chhay wants to drop a lawsuit he filed against the prince last year.

Nhiek Bun Chhay has never corresponded with the prince about the lawsuit he filed in November, the statement said.

During a Monday interview with Voice of America, Prince Ranariddh claimed that Nhiek Bun Chhay wrote two letters to him stating that he wanted to "compromise" on the lawsuit regarding the sale of Funcinpec headquarters.

Prince Ranariddh told VGA that Nhiek Bun Chhay wrote that he could not withdraw the lawsuit unless he had permission from Prime Minister Hun Sen and Cabinet Minister Sok An.

The claims are "an exaggeration aimed to incite and split the alliance and cooperation with the partner party," Funcinpec said in the statement

The statement urged the courts to act quickly on the case to "offer justice faster," and added that Funcinpec does not operate under the control of any other party.

The prince told VOA he has written to the prime minister about the two letters allegedly from Nhiek Bun Chhay.

The prince wanted to know Samdech Hun Sen's stance [on the letters]," Norodom Ranariddh Party spokesman Muth Channtha said. "The Prince has all the relevant documents to prove this comment," he added.

Nhiek Bun Chhay could not be reached for comment Monday.

Funcinpec spokesman Nouv Sovathero said that Prince Ranariddh invented the claims to help his own political career.
