ASSASSINATION OF AN SRP CANDIDATE IN PREAH VIHEAR
Mr. Prak Pheng, aged 35, SRP candidate number 5 for the commune election in Tor Soo commune, Chey Sen district, Preah Vihear province, was strangulated yesterday February 2, 2007 at 9 pm. The murderer went to his victim's home in the absence of his wife and children. Mr. Pheng's body bears the trace of strangulation and a wound on the back of his head. Even though a gentle and soft-spoken man, Mr. Pheng was a local leader of the Sam Rainsy Party who demonstrated great activity and courage in his political activities. He enjoyed much popularity among his fellow villagers, which leads to the suspicion that, just weeks before the April 1st commune election, his murder is politically-motivated.
The Sam Rainsy Party strongly condemns this act of violence that bodes ill for the forthcoming election and appeals to the competent authorities to swiftly and properly investigate this crime and prosecute its perpetrator. The Sam Rainsy Party hopes that all observers who follow the political situation in Cambodia, be they domestic, international NGOs or governmental bodies, will help monitor developments occurring in the pre-electoral period.

It is ashamed how uncivilized Cambodian politics can be. Murdering the opposition is lower than bacterial scum. Anyone who defend this murder is not human, and should shoot themself in the face.
Wrong, the muder has nothing to do
with government but has to do with
million of citizens who are proud
and care about Cambodia and who
have the courage to stand up to
evil doers like members of the SRP
who used the people's suffering as
a mean to seek Power.
And yes, I will salute such a
rightous act any day and place.
