I feel completely disappointed about Cambodian border police in Takeo province preventing members of the Khmer Krom ethnic minority from stepping onto Cambodia territory, ("Police Stop 35 Khmer Krom From Entering Cambodia," Wednesday, page 16). To my knowledge, the Khmer Krom are also Khmer. Why do Cambodian authorities prevent them from entering or living in Cambodia?
I do not know the Cambodian government's policy on the Khmer Krom. When they are in Vietnam, their freedoms of belief are restricted by the government. When they escape to Cambodia, the Cambodian authorities try to send them back.
To my understanding, Vietnamese people who have no passports or legal documents can come to Cambodia easily. They only have to pay some money to the border police. So is the government really serious about immigrants who enter Cambodia?
