Surgeons travel to Cambodia to perform free eye surgeries

HCM CITY — The Eye Hospital and the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients (HSAPP) in HCM City have provided free eye surgeries to 1,000 poor people in Cambodia with financial support from the Kinh Do Corporation.
Surgeons from the hospital are travelling to three Cambodian provinces – Pursat, Battambang and Kompong Chnang – from January 24 to February 4 for the purpose.
The HSAPP is organising the charity trip for the sixth time but this is the most fruitful in terms of number of patients benefiting.
The HSAPP is also donating medical equipment to clinics in these provinces, and the total cost this time is VND500 million (US$31,000).
Kinh Do’s assistance comes from the VND1 billion ($62,500) it has earmarked for charity for Tet (the Lunar New Year festival), which falls this year on February 17.
It said in a press release the remaining funds would be used to build 14 houses for poor families in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap and provide gifts worth VND400 million ($25,000) to poor people in Viet Nam and Cambodia.
