The Cambodian government gave the responsibility to the Ministry of Cult to organize, in conjunction with Hok Sovann – the monk in charge of Khmer Buddhism in Canada, the return of the body of Samdech Preah Maha Ghosananda who passed away on 12 March in the USA, at the age of 83-year-old.

Three days after the death of the monk who was known as the “Cambodian Ghandi,” monk Hok Sovann took the initiative to write to King-Father to ask him to help return the body of Maha Ghosananda back to Cambodia. According to Hok Sovann, this initiative would answer the wish of Cambodian faithful who want the supreme monk to rest at the Buddhist Center in Dei Et, located in the province of Kandal, which he was one of the founders. On 17 and 18 March, several hundreds people gathered around Tep Vong, the supreme monk chief in the kingdom, and around Bour Kry, the head of the Thamayuda order, to pay tribute to Maha Ghosananda at Wat Sampov Meas. According to Voice of America, religious ceremonies are still currently being held in various places, in memory of Maha Ghosananda, the organizer of numerous peace marches for a decade. According to officials in charge of the Ministry of Cult, there is no fixed date set for the transfer.
