Cambodia looks for aid to protect [Tonle Sap] lake

March 16, 2007

MANILA, Philippines, March 16 (UPI) -- Cambodia will get international aid to preserve Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake.

While financial details have yet to be unveiled, the Asian Development Bank said Friday it will provide support to clean up the Tonle Sap Great Lake, which will not only help the environment, but also help the area's poor.

Over one million people owe their livelihood to the lake and its ecosystem, the ADB said. As such, the bank argued that it will be critical to hold discussions on how to go about protecting the lake on the one hand, and allow people to benefit from those policies on the other.

"There is a risk that some of the poor and marginalized could be increasingly left behind," said Urooj Malik, director of the agriculture, environment and natural resources division at the bank's Southeast Asia department. "It is vital to involve them more in the process of formulating policies designed to improve their conditions."

Not too fast, Pals 4:08AM & 4:31AM. Khmers oversea are capable and easily can raise money to sponsor the Tonle-Sap project....but why? Since Hen Sen and Associates adapting non-transparentcy, un-accountable, no justice, corrupt system. Why should Khmers oversea wasting time and money.

All Khmers inside need to votes and elect the real democratic government, then the rest is easy to build Cambodia. We are small country and rich in resource to manage.

So tell the folk inside to vote out Hun Sen group. Even Chea Sim is better than him.

I believe that Hun Sen not live forever and Tonle Sap lake will be there forever. If the world would not do anythings because HUun Sen
is PM, Cambodia would not come this far. I focus what I believe, not because of others do and don't.
I am a student, if the President
of my college not a person I like and I won't study, what that will do. Well I'm only 20 years old, what do I know!

Tonle Sap Lake was there before
Hun Sen was born and will be there
after Hun Sen die. Tonle Sap has nothing to do with Hun Sen. This is a long term investment.

Hatred do not ever cease in this world by hating, but by love: this is an eternal truth; Overcome anger
by love, Overcome evil by good, Overcome the miser by giving, Overcome the liar by truth.(Dhammapada 1.5 & 17.3). If you're Buddhis you know that.
