A number of diplomats in Phnom Penh believe that the jail sentence and fine handed down to Prince Ranariddh by the court will prevent him for participating in the political life.
Jeff Daigle, the public relation official of the US embassy in Phnom Penh, said that Prince Ranariddh, NRP president, will lose his opportunity to participate in the election campaign for the upcoming commune election.
He added that Prince Ranariddh could lose his opportunity to participate in the 2008 general election also.
Foreign embassies in Phnom Penh have received successive letters from the NRP asking for their intervention.
Kim Chan, the public relation official of the UK embassy in Phnom Penh, said: “Our embassy received several letters from the NRP regarding the lawsuit brought by the Funcinpec.”
Nevertheless, diplomats said that they are not yet providing an answer as to whether they will intervene in Prince Ranariddh’s case or not. The US and UK officials above declined to comment on the sentence given to Prince Ranariddh.
Winston Mc Colgan, the EU charge d’affairs in Cambodia, also declined to comment on Prince Ranariddh’s case also. He considers this case to be an internal affair of Cambodia.
On Tueday 13 march, the Phnom Penh municipal court had sentenced in secret Prince Ranariddh to 18-month jail and a fine of $150,000 for breach of trust in the sale of the Funcinpec party headquarters.
Prince Ranariddh and his supporters have accused the court of injustice and they declare that they will hold a demonstration all over the country to protest the court sentence. They also call for intervention by donor countries.
Noranaridh Anandayat, the special advisor to the prince, said: “We are calling on donor countries to review the prince’s case because they are providing aid to Cambodia to reform the justice system, they should evaluate where the justice system is currently.”
Comfrel officials also believe that the absence of Prince Ranariddh in the country will create an imbalance in the election campaign for the upcoming commune election.

I am sorry Prince Ranariddh...no body put you in that trap (CPP) but you jumped into that trap by yourself.
We hope you have found many pieces of diamond in that trap.
Good luck Prince!
To Be a political leader, a person must have a good character and good leadership quality.
-Must not have been a bankruptcy company.
-Must not been commit any crimes both criminal crimes and white collars crimes.
-Must not been committed any adultery.
