Recently, a Thai expert declared on Thai TV station 5 that in less than 100 years, the Thai border will extend all the way to Vietnam.

Why did this Thai expert made such claim? Please listen to the questions and answer between RFA’s Kem Sos and Nou Thol, an independent commentator for RFA, who are raising this issue below.

Kem Sos (KS): Chhuon Chhung, a Cambodian student at a university in Bangkok, watched Station 5 TV in Thailand. Chhuon Chhung wrote to RFA that a Thai expert named Dak Tal Nikdephumnakvarot discussed on TV an issue involving Cambodia. Chhuon Chhung said that the Thai expert claimed that in less than 100 years, the Thai border will extend all the way to Vietnam.
In reality, I do not know who really are Chhuon Chhung, nor the expert Dak Tal Nikdephumnakvarot, but let’s take expert Dak Tal’s claim to discuss. I want to ask you whether this issue is achievable, can it become like that?

Nou Thol (NT): According to the letter sent by the student in Bangkok, he also provided some reasons supporting this claim in which in less than 100 years, Thailand will have a border juxtaposing Vietnam, he claims that Cambodia is developed only up to what it is right now, it will not progress further because all levels of…

KS: In this issue, do you believe that it is so?

NT: Hard to tell, if we look at the cause which was brought up to discuss now, there are some points of interest, in particular, he clearly said that even the Thai people are working inside the Khmer government, in the police force, that means inside Cambodia …

KS: Those are only the student’s idea, what we want to talk about is the idea of Mr. Dak Tal Nikdephumnakvarot who said that in less than 100 years, the Thai border will extent all the way to Vietnam, what does he mean? According to you, your understanding, what does the Thai expert want to talk about?

NT: He meant that Cambodia will no longer exist in the world.

KS: Why did he say that? What does he base his claim on? On the economy or what?

NT: They don’t talk much about it, they only provide some points for us to think about. Cambodia is a satellite country in terms of economy. Cambodia is very weak. We depend on others for everything. So their country remains strong…

KS: Their country is strong in economy. What does Thailand have right now?

NT: If we make the comparison, I can see that based on their (Thailand) ability and their economy, in short, our country is behind Thailand by about almost 50 years.

KS: But, I want to ask this: what link does Thailand have in Cambodia relating to the economy?

NT: From what we know up to now, Thailand owns one cement factory. We (Cambodia) did not re-open our factory in Chakrey Ting and make it work again, but we rely entirely on the purchase of Thai cement for building everything in our Cambodia. On top of that, everything that we use comes from import …

KS: What are those things? Can you tell us what they are?

NT: Goods, foods…

KS: OK for food, how about in the electronic industry, such as telephones, etc… Did Thailand come to do business in Cambodia?

NT: Yes Thailand does, Thailand is in mobile phone business, there are 2 or 3 [Thai] companies. Most of the times, Thai companies are present in all aspect of [business] professions in Cambodia, based on my knowledge.

KS: How many are they? Are there a lot of them? Are there any Khmer companies who are in the telephone business? How about other major businesses?

NT: Based on what I know, there are no Cambodians who are doing a business by themselves. They mainly associate with others [foreign companies]. But when it comes to the size of their shares in the business joint venture, I don’t know. This is normal in my mind.

KS: What else is linked to Thailand besides Thailand coming to do business in Cambodia, what else constitutes Thailand’s influence on Cambodia?

NT: In tourism also.

KS: What must Cambodians do?

NT: We must build a strong economy.

KS: How?

NT: A strong economy must be based on the people. Coming to the point, the [Cambodian] people must no longer have problem feeding themselves. Currently, they are so busy with feeding themselves (surviving) and they have no time …

KS: How do eliminate the survival problem?

NT: Cambodian still have food shortage.

KS: But, what do we do to eliminate the shortage?

NT: The government must raise the standards of living of people, so that they have the strength to labor to develop the country’s economy.

KS: You talked about raising [the standards of living], what is that? How should we proceed to do that?

NT: Such as through the aid we receive, or we should strengthen our tax collection system, for example.

We must thank to this Thai expert who has warned us about this potential. He is very correct. For me I would say that Thailand with have common border with Vietnam within 10 years as long as Cambodia is being led by Hun sen , Chea Sim and Heng sam Rin. Why, because with less than 10 year, Cambodian population will be climbing to 20 millions with 14 millions vietnamese and 8 millions Cambodian. Just after the death of Hun Sen , vietnam declare Cambodia as their province.

But Vietnam said after the death
of Sihanouk Cambodia will be fully
Indochina member.

Well, the only way to avoid this
problem is to deport all the Khmer-
Yuons (KK) back to Vietnam.

What the "Thai expert" doesn't know is that by that time the Vietnam border will be at Bangkok, because Thailand will be flushed down the toilet economically, and in any event you'll all be speaking Chinese because both Thailand and Vietnam will be relatively tiny and backward provinces of Greater China!

Matter at hand is ah Yuons in Cambodia and ah Kbal Yuons Kloun Khmer, mainly CPPs.

Just looking at what happens today. Cambodia's government led by Hun Sen are visiting ah Yuons Hanoi almost everyday. Yuons travel to Cambodia like one of their provinces. Now I heard Yuons socalled "business people" need no passport to go to Cambodia. This is just another invasion of Yuons in Cambodia

I don't think Thailand is a big threat, but Vietnam is. Vietnam is already forming a alliance of three: Vietnam,Lao, Cambodia. Why don't we analyze this alliance? This is the original blue-print of Ho Chi Minh's Indochina party.

I am no favouring Thai's interest in Cambodia, but do we ever burn down Viet's business and factories in Cambodia? No right? We did a lots of damage to the Thai's already...due to simply Hun Sen's and CPP's tactics and their puppets of Vietnam. Hun Sen and CPPs allow Khmer to protest against Thai but not against Yuons' interests??? See the simple logic of the Hun Sen and his Vietnamization of Khmer!!!

Now, not focusing on VN's new expansionism tactic, but provoke another case of Thailand.

Whatever, the story you has made, must be in ballance, not extreme or radical...so that Cambodian would be recognized as peaceful world members...

I came across this so.. stupid headline stipulated by an unknown Cambodian stu(pid)dent in Bangkok who was not able to understand the Thai name. In fact, the story doesn't worth any comment. The claimed 'expert' by the stu(pid)dent must be Nitipoom Navarat- a philosophy doctor no less. Nitipoom is considered a wise guy, a columinist for the Thai Rath daily- which is a mass circulation in Thailand. Nitipoon is also a TV commentator. But listen again.. he's a wisw guy who would never make any sutupid comment as calimed by that Khmer stu(pid)ent. We knew what it is between Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Stop arguibf guys. This topic created by the ultra-right-leaning, CIA-sponsored Raido Free Asia doesn't woth a comment at all.

CIA are in your closet, too if you may know. The Asian jerks think they are darn smart, eh?
CIA knew who were behind the Yaun during Vietnam War. There're Soviet (the old dictator Stalin, Mao, Castro, and Sihanouk), and Thai ?? what did Thai do?
You didn't conclude the Thai stole custom from Khmer? Admit it before another Tsunami may hit into the heart of your own bedroom.

Those million croaches of CIA will be crawling all over your delicious dishes.

I dnt see any light that thailand is able to do so. Yet thailand has been facing the infighting and this will go on until this country torn into three parts. From now on thailand will meet a bad fortune and so they experience...

kem, you should pay attention to the rule party on the issues of fighting corruptions, land-grabbing, injustice, human rights, and any more. this individual does not represent thai's view as a nation and people. are you up for the job? am i worry about you?

Hi,

Yuon & Siam are continuing to fool Khmer with the same old propaganda that they had been using on Khmer over and over again and again for, how many hundred years now?.

Unfortunately and tragically, the Khmer so-called leaders are continuing to fall into the same old propaganda. IRONICALLY, WE HAVE NEVER LEARNED!

Hypothetically speaking, what if I publically proclaim that I'm an expert/professor/researcher in Southeast Asia studies or in that matters. And I make a claim and/or distributing leaflets to you all that we have approximately over 4 millions Khmer/Khmer Surin living inside Thailand, armed and ready to take over Southern part of Thailand, which was used to be part of Khampuchea land.

And again, what if I say and/or distribute leaflets to you all that we have approximately over 10 millions of our own Khmer Kampuchea Krom living in Kampuchea Krom are armed and ready to sacraficed their lives to take control of Kampuchea Krom from Ah savage Yuon.

Remember, Siam & Yuon are always wanted to divide us apart because they know that once we're united, we are strong and powerful like when wer once "Khmer Empire".

Think about it folks! Are we [supposed] to work together to build on what we are having right now or are we spending time worrying about what Ah savage Siam and Yuon are going to threatening us.

DON'T LET THEM CONTROL OUR MIND AND SOULS ANYMORE.

Somlor Ma-Chou Yuon

Anonymous said...

Good job Somlor Ma-Chou Yuon. They try to fool us. We need to be stronger than what we are now in order to stand their foolis propaganda.

Anonymous said...

This is rediculous. If Thailand even thinks about invading, they would only cause their own downfall. People of Kampuchea are going to unite and Khmers like us aren't that easy to take over. Keep in mind, Cambodia wasn't an empire for nothing. Cambodia also have China, Japan, South and North Korea on our side. In 100 years Cambodia would be already be strong enough to take over Thailand. According to geography and info, Cambodia has the potential of becoming the new Singapore of Asia. Thai's are just jealous that Cambodia is starting to get world recognition.

bul shit, you are histoty!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, right!! - I don't belong to any Cambodian political party nor do I want to - this is a modern world, not the dark ages... what a wishful thinking. first, the thais or the viets have to deal with the khmer people, then the world in general. remember, what goes around comes around, it might be the other way around. I agree with bullshit above. however, I can see the usefulness of this publication/comments; it made good a debate...

Every Khmer in here should know this is a serious wakeup call!

Since the discovery of oil was found within Cambodia, both our neighbors (siems and youns) have been butting their nose into Cambodians business/affairs as of lately. Siems talk about Cambodia will be easily wiped out the map and that Thailand and Vietnam will border each other and a youn PM visited Cambodia recently to discuss "border/maritime"issues. Very interesting.

Ironically, its near election year and this may favor Hun Sen. He'll just take it out on the siems again while youns being sneaky that they are will rearrange the border/maritime line and surprisingly discover oil on their new territories.

You must admit that the siem and youns are very concerned and aware of this because with the discovery of oil in Cambodia, it can very well boost Cambodia's economy and that means very soon Cambodians can feed, fight and defend ourselves again. And in less time again, Cambodians will rise and unite as a whole. That means siems and youns are worried that the province/lands that they stole from us will be rightfully taken back. I would be very concerned about it too if I was a siem and youn.

Wakeup my Khmer brother and sisters! Now is the time. With oil we can have allies that are powerful doing business with us and use that to defend us from the siems and youns! Wakeup! Learn from the pasts mistakes and unite!!
