AN offer to work abroad with a lucrative income is difficult to resist.
The same goes to an all-expense paid holiday overseas.
The catch?
Deliver a bag, purportedly containing important documents, to the company’s representative at the designated country.
But what you do not know is that the luggage contains drugs.
This is among the latest ‘ploys’ employed by dadah syndicates in the country uncovered by Federal Narcotics Department, based on information gathered from several Malaysians arrested overseas for drug possession.
Its director, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahab Abdul Julai, said last year alone, 31 Malaysians, including four women, were caught overseas for possession of drugs.
He said of the total, 10 were arrested in Thailand, four in Indonesia, three each in Brunei, Hong Kong, Cambodia and China, two each in Japan and Taiwan, and one in Australia.
He said some admitted to knowing the content of the bags and chose to deliver the drugs because of money.
“This year, nine Malaysians were arrested — two each in Peru, Taiwan and Singapore, and one each in Japan, Australia and China,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Of the nine, five are women, including the recent case of 41-year-old Zuraida Ghani who was arrested at Brisbane International Airport, Australia, on March 8.
It was reported that Zuraida was arrested after airport authorities found about 2kg of ephedrine hidden in a secret compartment of her luggage.
Abang Abdul Wahab also urged the public to exercise extra caution if they are approached with offers of all-expense paid holidays or jobs with lucrative income overseas.
“Please check or alert us and we are more than glad to help,” he said.
