In France, Generals Juin, de Lattre de Tassigny, Leclerc de Hautecloque (at the end of World War II) became Marshalls of France, because, at the head of theirs terrific officers and troops, they won major victories for the total liberation of their Homeland.
In Cambodia, the March 18, 1970 Putschists, the Lonnolians only knew infamous defeats.
Within a few months of their existence, their anti-Sihanouk regime lost 5 (five) entire provinces, this does not include numerous places in other Khmer provinces.
In 1973, 2/3 of Kampuchea was liberated by the FUNC-GRUNC-FAPLNC.
Let’s not even talk about April 1975! All these major deadly defeats for their “Republic” “justified” (sic!) – Oh, what a new height in mockery! – their “triumphant” promotions – advancement of military ranks.
Thus General Lon Nol became Marshall. Everybody still (in 2007) call him “Marshall-President Lon Nol.” The [army] captains during the SRN became “Generals”. Bravo!!!

This was also the case for a former school dropout who used to reside in Wat Neakavon. These do not include the numerous “oknha” titles granted to anyone who can put up the $100,000 fee “donated” to the state coffer.
