Comments made by Prime Minister Hun Sen over the weekend exalting achievements of his ruling party constitute a violation of election laws, watchdog organizations said Tuesday. Campaigning legally can only occur between March 16 and March 30. Hun Sen's comments at a provincial forum Sunday, where he spoke of school and canal construction, gave the CPP an unfair advantage, the groups said.

Officials of the opposition Norodom Ranariddh Party expressed regret over the death of a 15-year-old girl Sunday. She died in an explosion at her home, and party officials say the bomb that went off was meant to kill her father because he is a candidate in the upcoming elections.

Officials of the Alliance for Freedom of Expression in Cambodia denounced land grabs in Bovel, Battambang province, Tuesday. Land grabs have become a hot-button topic recently, and the prime minister has vowed to put a stop to it. Alliance members also condemned the shooting murder of a labor activist, saying it was meant to cow other union leaders.
