Opposition walkout during Nat’l Assembly debate

Everyday.com.kh
Translated from Khmer by Socheata

A small number of SRP MPs walked out of a National Assembly debate on Tuesday because they were not pleased with the debate on the draft law to approve government expenditures for 2004. Even though with the SRP MPs walkout, the law was passed on 62 to 13 votes.

The walkout enraged CPP Chiem Yeap. He told The Cambodia Daily by phone that lawmakers should stop walking out of parliament session without the authorization from Heng Samrin, the president of the National Assembly. However, Chiem Yeap said that CPP MPs can walk out because they received the authorization from Heng Samrin, whereas the SRP MPs do not have such right. Chiem Yeap threatened to cut salaries, blame them, inform their constituencies, and remove them from the National Assembly session, all MPs who will walk out from the session in the future.

... debate on the draft law to approve government expenditures for 2004?
2004 was history. Is this a typo?

Anyway, why don't we reinstate
capital punishment in Cambodia.
That way, we can shot those rude
SRP parliamentarians for treason?
That is the least we can do to
save our poor tax payers money.

Hi Mrrrrrrrrrr. Chiem Yeap,

Good to hear that you are angry. This is human Nature. So why can't the opposition MPs walkout? One simple reason is that CPP is singing a repeated song no one wants to listen.

Just don't force them to listen to your song.

You know Mrrrrr. Yeap. Your CPP song sounds beautuful only for CPP members. And, sometines just because it was so beautiful that many of the CPP MPs are sleeping during the sessions.

Is there any interal rules to cut their salaries because of sleeping during NA Sessions. If so you cut it from your CPP crazy PMs.

And I sometimes see your CPP MPs voting with a show of hands while sleeping. Can this kind of votes be counted.

It is a double standard. While the CPP MPs are entitle to have right of walking out of the National Assembly, and the SRP's aren't.

Mr. Cheam Yab!
the walk is part of freedom of speech!

You can call free dom of walk, we are not communist don't you remember?

Why speech (lipservice)? Why not
keep on walking? Oh I forgot, the
SRP is about lipservice, not
action because they are incapable
of such.
